Jackson 5 and Kool & The Gang

Today I have some old school music for you! Now when I say old school, I actually mean old school. As in, the awesome 70's music that your parents probably listened to. This is not the first song by the Jackson 5 that I have posted, but I certainly have not posted many songs by this awesome group. This is probably one of the best groups of all time. I mean not only are all of the members extremely talented, but this is a family band. It is extremely rare to see family groups like this and I think that is one of the things that made the Jackson 5 even more popular. There is this effortless chemistry to their work and that is heard in their sound. But this song is probably one of the most iconic songs of all time. Adults and children of all generation following know this song. Over forty years in the future and this song is still one of the defining songs of the American music industry. Honestly, this song is one of the characteristics that define American culture. There are always those classics, but this one is at the highest ranks of awesomeness. This song features Michael Jackson as the lead singer and he sounds so phenomenal of course. I honestly don't know what else to say about this song other than that it is one of the greatest songs ever! Today's instrumental song is by Kool And The Gang. This song is also one of my favorite oldies songs. This one is from the early 80's but it serves as an awesome bridge for the 70's motown sound to the 80's disco sound. Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
