TVXQ (DBSK) and Sia
Today I have some music that ventures into a different realm of music. Today, I have music for you from the world of K-Pop, and more importantly the world of TVXQ. Now, sometimes I feel that K-Pop has many stereotypes attached to it, but not all of these stereotypes are true. For example, this is the first song I had ever heard from the world of K-Pop and totally loved it! I honestly don't know why it took me this long to post a song from this side of music. This song has a really edgy beat to it and the whole song flows really well. Not to mention the fact that they all have great voices. Though this song is older, I still think it is an awesome song! The beats are dirty and the music definitely has this exciting and edgy sound to it. This song is kind of a mix of a dance song and R&B which I think sounds freaking awesome in Korean. Even though I don't understand the words to the song, they way TVXQ sings and the stylization of the music give me an idea as to what the song is talking about. Everything syncs together and meshes so well so that it gives us a song that we want to listen to. A lot of times, K-Pop features high pitched vocals, but this song has vocals that fall on the lower range and they have more mellow voices. I personally prefer this kind of sound to the more modern style. From the vocal side of things, we get the to hear the individual voices of the members. Each member has a very distinct voice and way of singing. However, they all have a very intense and edgy sound to their voices for this song. Certain syllables are overly stressed to give this song more of a badass sound and I think it is perfect! There is some wicked electronic work underneath the voices. Some of the vocals are taken, recorded, and then slightly auto tuned to serves as a supporting layer to the normal vocals. The electronic manipulation in this song is on point honestly. The Imogen Heap style of electronic vocal manipulation is heard in this song and it sounds phenomenal. There is a point in the song when they turn to some Korean rap and then let loose this wild note that soars in pitch. It sounds so incredibly amazing. I can't even describe how phenomenal it sounds and how well it works with this song to give it a darker and more intense energy. The music in this song is something that you could easily dance to in my opinion. You could come up with really edgy and unique hip hop choreography. It is a shame that this group is not as well known in America, but for everyone out there, I highly recommend you all listen to more music from TVXQ. I think it is clear as to why TVXQ has been considered the King of K-Pop and I can definitely understand why this is one of the biggest Asian singles of all time. Today's instrumental song is by an incredible artist, Sia. This song lacks the electronic nature that is found in the first song, but there many similar elements. There is an underlying darkness and very hip hop feel to it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
