Harry Styles & Sam McCarthy and Harry Potter
Today I have a song for you by a singer that I really enjoy despite the fame and fortune that has befallen him. Harry Styles is most notable for his involvement with One Direction, which is still going very strong. However, I stumbled upon this song with just him and no other band members. I have to say, this song is absolutely lovely. This song showcases a completely different side of Harry Styles and his vocal capabilities. Sometimes being with the band cannot give us a full view of the vocal characteristics that a member has. This song is full of real vulnerability and almost a sad pain. The lyrics are very sweet and more emotional than I would have thought. This kind of this song is what I imagined Harry Styles would sing if he ever went solo. It is something heart wrenching, sweet, a little indie and even has a little bit of rock thrown in there. I can tell you that Harry Styles does come with rock influence in his voice, but a lot of that rock feel in this song comes from the featured artist Sam McCarthy. This artist is one of the members of the band Kids of 88, a band which I have blogged about quite a bit! These two artists make for a very good collaboration because they come from different worlds of music. One comes from the world of worldwide fame, pop tunes, and things that are meant to appeal mainly to newly adolescent girls. However, the other brings in the vibe of a small scale band that covers more genres and has a very unique sound to it. Harry Styles has a voice that is drenched in a sexy rasp which he has really learned how to use. He also has a voice that can be full of genuine sadness, and when you listen to his voice in this song, it makes you feel that sadness. Sam McCarthy has a higher pitched voice and spends more time in the falsetto than Harry Styles does. Because these two cover all ends of the spectrum, they have been able to successfully combine their voices to harmonize with one another. Another great thing about this song is that Harry Styles wrote these lyrics on his own. A lot of other artists have songwriters for them, but this song is entirely his words. His words are put to the music composed by Sam McCarthy and it makes for an exquisitely sad but romantic song. I have to applaud Sam McCarthy's musical skills because he made this a song that people can listen to and feel a multitude of emotions to, but it is also a song that is not lacking in drive. This song can mean different things to different people and that is what makes this song so beautiful. Everyone can relate to this song in one way or another. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. This is one of the most emotional moments in the entirety of the Harry Potter franchise and is also a climactic moment in the series. A moment such as this is clearly expressed in the raw pain that this piece exhibits. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
