Johnny Stimson and Ol' Burger Beats

Image
Today I have music for you by the artist Johnny Stimson. Now let me tell you, I have not been able to get this song out of my head all day, and I am completely okay with that! And no, it isn't because I am biased because this artist is from Texas like me. Johnny Stimson has taken R&B to another level of being both steamy and electronic. This song has so many amazing things happening in it all at once and it makes me smile a little mischievously. Or maybe that's the sexy vibes I get from this song. And let me tell you, this song is most definitely a nice and seductive one for you. This song has that really nice and slow beat, accompanied only by a little bit of synth work. The instrumentation in this song has a nice and simple sound to it, but that nice and easy flow is what gives this song a lot of body and free movement. And that relaxed nature of music give this song a great vibe, one that makes you want to either dance a little bit or find your significant other quickl...

He Is We & Owl City and People Like Us

Image
Today I have music for you by the duo known as He Is We and features the lovely vocals of Owl City. This song is a cute love song, one of those songs that make you smile because it is that adorable. This song has notable influences brought in by Owl City. That chime sound and the way some of the harmonies are done are very similar to the style that Owl City provides. It is quite lovely though! Because there are three vocalists, the chorus showcases really nice two-part harmonies to go along with the chorus. The vocals that Adam Young provides fit like puzzle pieces with the female vocalization. The female vocals are blusey and have a hint of country to it. However, Adam Young brings this special softness that only his voice has. It is a sound that can be passionate and energetic but still maintains this soft tenderness and slightly higher pitch. Usually, Owl City falls under some sort of electronic genre, but this song is completely acoustic. Adam Young blends in spectacular...

The Smiths and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Image
Today I have some music for you that comes from the 1980s. Specifically, this song is by one of the greatest British bands of all time, and this song is hands down one of the most remarkable romantic songs we will ever hear. The Smiths will forever and always hold an incredibly special place in my heart because of this song. Now for those of you who don't know, The Smiths was a band of England during the mid and late 80s. They were a group that spearheaded so much within the music world, including individualism and artistic creativity. The Smiths have always been a phenomenal band, which is why I have been giving them a good and thorough listen over the course of the past few days. This song stands out not only as one of the greatest songs by The Smiths, but as one of the greatest romantic songs of all time. The balance between the composition itself and the lyricism is absolutely beautiful and perfect. There is an odd kind of hope that we get with this song. Those warmer feeling...

Splitter and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Image
Today I have some music for you that is so refreshing because it is just some good old rock and roll. This song is by a band called Splitter, a name that I would automatically think would suit a  more metal sound. But this song is what I think the Beatles would sound like if they had a little heavier rock. And I love it! This song has a lot of the older rock elements that have become classic, but the lyrics and style of guitar playing is very modern. That combination is pretty damn swell when we hear it in a song like this. I mean you take the guitar solo that is thrown in the middle, and that just screams rock and roll. And then, of course, we have the vocals which remind me so much of Paul McCartney. This is definitely what a modern day Beatles would sound like, and there is nothing wrong with that! Every kind of artists needs some evolution, it just so happens that a second band proves to be a bit of that evolution for the Beatles.  This song opens up with a repeated gu...

Chris Cornell and Soundgarden

Image
Today is a day of mourning for the music community. We lost an incredible vocalist, musician, and music member last night. Chris Cornell was the lead singer of the bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, and to this day remain one of the most important and pivotal influencers in the music community. The Grammy-nominated singer could be considered one of the fathers of grunge rock music and helped kick start a movement which shook the entire world. He helped define the niche genre that is grunge, taking the best elements of punk and metal to brew something completely unique and edgy. His voice was a force to reckoned with, being able to fluidly transition from a vulnerable howl to a gritty growl, with a range that spanned four octaves. From 1984 to now, Chris Cornell is a powerful presence and overcame much in his life. I pay so much respect and love towards Chris Cornell and his family. His work with music and his influence within rock music have been so transformative for the genre. My ...

Parekh & Singh and 500 Days of Summer

Image
Today I have some really interesting music for you which comes from India. Now when most people hear or think of Indian music, the mind naturally gravitates towards Bollywood. And this is fair! I find myself thinking that way sometimes as well. But the hidden world of Indian music outside of Bollywood is quite amazing. There is music across all genres, from rap to rock to hip hop and folk. This song happens to fall in the genre of dream pop and a bit indie rock oriented. These are genres we tend to not see often from Indian artists, so I was definitely really excited when I heard what kind of music Parekh & Singh created. Parekh & Singh sound so unlike anything most people have heard of Indian music, that is can be hard to imagine that these guys hail from Kolkata. When I first heard their music, there was no way I believed that the duo was from India. It just didn't seem to make sense in my head because of what I thought I knew about Indian entertainment and music. But t...

The Knocks and Gorrilaz

Image
Today's music is by an artist that I haven't been able to stop listening to lately. The Knocks is an awesome musical duo from the great New York City. The Knocks is such a great musical group because they are able to pull off so many sounds without a second's hesitation. This song though is my absolute favorite. When listening to the discography that The Knocks boasts, you get the feeling that this song is a bit unlike the rest of their music. Normally they have a more upbeat kind of sound, something that is more high energy. And this song does have a great dancing beat and movement to it! But this song has that really special kind of energy that makes you feel everything around you. It isn't  every day  that you hear and electronic song that takes you to that special place where everything falls away, and it is just you and the beautiful world. This is one of those psychedelically wonderful songs, taking you to a higher state. This is a song that reminds me of the ec...
