The Knocks and Gorrilaz

Today's music is by an artist that I haven't been able to stop listening to lately. The Knocks is an awesome musical duo from the great New York City. The Knocks is such a great musical group because they are able to pull off so many sounds without a second's hesitation. This song though is my absolute favorite.

When listening to the discography that The Knocks boasts, you get the feeling that this song is a bit unlike the rest of their music. Normally they have a more upbeat kind of sound, something that is more high energy. And this song does have a great dancing beat and movement to it! But this song has that really special kind of energy that makes you feel everything around you. It isn't every day that you hear and electronic song that takes you to that special place where everything falls away, and it is just you and the beautiful world. This is one of those psychedelically wonderful songs, taking you to a higher state. This is a song that reminds me of the ecstasy of being alive and doing things that make me feel completely free and alive. It is the kind of song that makes you think of the music and the person you could be dancing with. The song has this ability to strip all of those excess thoughts from your mind and puts you in the moment.

Now when we break down the musicality of the song, it is actually a pretty stripped down song for the EDM world. There is this wonderful tribal beat in the background, giving us this really nice pulse, like a heartbeat. Even the synths are pretty stripped down. The melodies aren't necessarily very complex or nasty, but there is something perfect about that simplicity. A lot of the instrumental work in this song lies with the tribal beat, but that layered synth line is just enough to give us that incredible sensation. This song is oddly tantalizing in the way it sounds. You think that there is more instrumentation that could be added, but also know that all the song needs is that tribal drum beat and the synth. And nothing else.

Now the vocals in this song are provided by Gary Go. I love Gary Go's work. I haven't heard much from him recently, but that is why this song was even better to me. It brought back one of the best EDM vocalists ever! His voice is one that is able to sing with passion and desire. You can hear that desire for living and loving in his voice. You can hear the desire he has for dancing without anything stopping him. Sometimes you can't really put into words how the vocals change the way a song sounds. But Gary Go's vocals are so indescribably perfect for this song. It isn't too gruff nor too strong. But it also isn't falsetto oriented or ethereal. There is such a rich substance to the vocalization, and strikes this wonderful balance in which the notes all seem to bend their will towards Gary Go. The Knocks delivered a song is one of those really special ones because it takes you to that place you don't venture to often. And that feeling is so beautiful.

This song is a reminder that we don't necessarily seize the moment, but that the moment seizes us. Today's instrumental song is by the band Gorillaz. This is a band that has been out of the spotlight for a long time, but they are coming out with an album this year and I am so excited! This is a band that is the least conventional band you will ever witness. They have animated aliases, and even while performing in concert, they maintain those aliases. It is actually pretty freaking cool. This is one of their more laid back and contemplative songs. Its different from the other rock songs they put out, but somehow fits in really well with their story line. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
