Too Far Moon and Ludwig van Beethoven

Image
Today I have some darker, more moving music for you. Both songs today are very piano heavy, relying mainly on those graceful notes to convey so much emotion. This song is by solo artist Too Far Moon. Music like this is the kind of music that leaves you completely speechless. There is a heavenly allure to the song, and when you listen to the song, you don't want to break that silence. You don't want to let go of how that song pierced an arrow through your soul, and breaking that silence would be like pulling that arrow out. This is one of those songs that bypasses your mind and goes straight to your heart and soul. Too Far Moon writes the lyrics and produces all of his music and the fact that he created a song as spectacular and heart-wrenching as this is a bit bittersweet. Sweet in the sense that we are able to hear something that is so full of emotion and life. Bitter in the sense that he must have gone through something utterly heart shattering to write this work...

Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee and Mission Impossible II

Image
Today we are starting off with an artist from Puerto Rico! It has been ages since my last post regarding Latin music, so today I wanted to bring you some fresh sounds by the singer-songwriter known as Luis Fonsi. And when it comes to musical academia, this guy has a lot going for him. While Luis Fonsi studied music during college, he also participated in a traveling choir which took him all over the US and England. On top of it all, his songwriting skills have earned quite a few awards and nominations, including a Latin Grammy. But I realize that you all didn't come here for a biography lesson, so let's jump into the music! This song reached the top of so many charts and did so very quickly. What is interesting to note though, is that this song is still relatively unknown. How this happened, I am not so sure about, but there are a couple of things I wanted to point out about this. First, this is the first Latin and Spanish pop song to reach the global top 10 playlist on Spoti...

Black Pistol Fire and The Black Keys

Image
Today we are changing gears quite a bit. Lately, I have been focusing a lot on the R&B, rap, and EDM spheres of music. But I thought it would be a nice change of pace to go with something more rock oriented. Coming from my very own Austin, TX, Black Pistol Fire has delivered a song that is very alive and packed with some ferocious attitude. This is the kind of song that makes you feel like the most suave person in the world, the kind of song that has the ability to make you swagger around the streets. This song has the ability to make you feel like an absolute boss, as if no one can touch you and no one can bring you down. Black Pistol Fire isn't a very well known band, nor is this a well known song. Which is kind of a sad thing, but then again, that also kind of allows the band to keep doing their own thing, which I really like. This is a song that takes some blues music and turns it into this wicked rock kind of sound. The band tends to use a lot of guitar work, not only as...

Miguel & Tame Impala and MGMT

Image
Today we are moving on to the world of groovy music. This song is one that I have legitimately been obsessed with for a while now. This is a song that is all about feeling the music and going with the flow of the music. Originally the song is by Miguel, and in his typical fashion, it's super smooth on the ears. Now what I found interesting was that the original version of the song was off the beaten path for Miguel's normal R&B style. The song has a lot more groove and funk to it than the normally smooth and sensual kind of songs we get from Miguel. But Tame Impala swooped in and changed the game even more with this remix. Who would have ever thought of putting Tame Impala and Miguel together? The two artists come from completely different musical genres, yet, this remix is one of the greatest jams I have heard! I have to admit, this remix blew the original song out of the water in my opinion. Not that Miguel's original song is bad. But this version has this dreamy k...

Tritonal & Jonathan Mendelsohn and Julian Jordan

Image
Today I have music for you by Tritonal. This duo has been part of a lot of music buzz and popularity, and this song can tell you why. Tritonal has a very clean style of making music. Many electronic artists don't clean up their songs to make them the best they can be, but Tritonal hits the mark every time. These past few years have seen amazing progress for this duo and a little bit of evolution in their sound. This is their latest single and it has taken a slight turn to the house side of things. This song does have a nice combination of trance and house, but it tends to lean more on house. While this is just a sampling of the song, it has a very complete and round sound to it. We are exposed to the phenomenal vocals provided by Jonathan Mendelsohn. This guy, talk about incredible vocals. It might take a few listens to hear it, but right before the first drop you can hear Jonathan Mendelsohn screaming distantly in the background. And this isn't one of those dubstep crazy screa...

Kendrick Lamar

**When I posted this, YouTube had been kind enough to leave the song, FEAR. online. Sadly, they pulled it down yesterday, but for reference, the song being discussed is indeed FEAR.** Today is the last day in the Kendrick Lamar saga. I have to say, it has been pretty awesome being able to write about his music and how impactful the album is. And so to wrap up this chapter of music, I wanted to start off by thanking YouTube for not taking this down. Everywhere I look, Kendrick Lamar's latest material is being taken down left and right. But we do have this one final song, so here we go! Okay, so this song is a standout piece for a few reasons. For starters, it is one of the longest, if not the longest song on the album. And while this is all great and dandy, the real uniqueness comes from the autobiographical nature of the song. Kendrick Lamar uses this as a way to create a biopic kind of piece, which I thought was pretty darn interesting. We get an inside look at the life of Ken...

Kendrick Lamar Day 4

Image
Today's post is coming in a little bit late, that's my bad! But guess what? We are still on the Kendrick Lamar train. And I have to say, with all the hype surrounding the album, it is getting harder and harder to find the music on sources like YouTube. But thankfully, I think we can get a couple more songs out before we can't find anything else. But with all the Kendrick Lamar buzz that is happening, it would be an absolute shame if we didn't take a look at the first release from the album. Now this song was the first single we got, the first taste of Kendrick Lamar's damn good album (sorry, the joke had to be made at least once). And personally, I think this song was a good choice as the first single. This song does a great job of summarizing the intent and purpose of the album, without going into detail about certain points which are heavily described in other songs. This song is more of an overview on what Kendrick Lamar sees wrong in society, and who he really...
