Miguel & Tame Impala and MGMT

Today we are moving on to the world of groovy music. This song is one that I have legitimately been obsessed with for a while now. This is a song that is all about feeling the music and going with the flow of the music.

Originally the song is by Miguel, and in his typical fashion, it's super smooth on the ears. Now what I found interesting was that the original version of the song was off the beaten path for Miguel's normal R&B style. The song has a lot more groove and funk to it than the normally smooth and sensual kind of songs we get from Miguel. But Tame Impala swooped in and changed the game even more with this remix. Who would have ever thought of putting Tame Impala and Miguel together? The two artists come from completely different musical genres, yet, this remix is one of the greatest jams I have heard! I have to admit, this remix blew the original song out of the water in my opinion. Not that Miguel's original song is bad. But this version has this dreamy kind of sound to it. There is a more ambient and transcendent sound that gives the song such an abstract kind of feel. Tame Impala gave this song a really good psychedelic makeover, and it works so incredibly well. The secret to success on this song lies in the way Miguel and Tame Impala contributed to making this the magically whimsical song that it is. Miguel provides all the melody and vocalization, giving the song some sort of initial direction. And then Tame Impala comes in and provides all the instrumentation and dreamy nostalgia.

With Tame Impala at the helm of producing the remix, the whole song sounds as if it was recorded in a world that is full of pastel colors and whimsical figures. It's like the song was recorded in a trippy studio, woven by thoughts of desire and yearning. Miguel has already been exploring and edging his R&B style of music towards the rock world, so bringing in Tame Impala for a remix was a really great move. And we can hear that shift in the way Miguel present himself vocally. Instead of opting for something that is sensual and slow jam worthy, we get to hear a raspier and grittier side of Miguel. His voice has rougher undertones with this song, and somehow that is even better than what we've already heard from him. These grittier vocals are well suited for Tame Impala's take on the song. The band is able to strip off some parts of the original song and throw their own sounds in. Killer bass lines, reverb-heavy guitar melodies, psychedelic melodies between instruments, and ethereal and detached vocals all combine together in the typical Tame Impala fashion. The only difference is who provided the vocals this time around. Between Tame Impala and Miguel, we get this really smooth summery vibe that turns the song into such an earworm. The 70s style groove adds so much life and body to the song, that it is a very different feeling when you go back and listen to the original. What is interesting to note though, is that Tame Impala only heightened that funk and groove kind of sound. We already heard a base for that in the original version of the song! So that does leave me curious as to what we can expect from Miguel later on. This song is absolute proof that artists from seemingly unrelated genres can come together and create absolute magic.

Today's instrumental song is by a band that has become absolutely iconic. MGMT is known for a lot of their work, and for good reason. The psychedelic band is one of the most popular around, and my goodness has they put out some really addicting songs. The music isn't incredibly high energy, which I am a fan of. There is a smooth kind of repetitive groove that is found in each song, mainly because of the heavy use of the base guitar. But that funky plodding works really well with the way MGMT crafts around it. Synths and keyboards come and fill up the rest of the sound space with lighter and more high-spirited sounds. Given enough time, I highly recommend going through all of Tame Impala's and MGMT's wor. IT really is a treasure. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
