Black Pistol Fire and The Black Keys

Today we are changing gears quite a bit. Lately, I have been focusing a lot on the R&B, rap, and EDM spheres of music. But I thought it would be a nice change of pace to go with something more rock oriented. Coming from my very own Austin, TX, Black Pistol Fire has delivered a song that is very alive and packed with some ferocious attitude. This is the kind of song that makes you feel like the most suave person in the world, the kind of song that has the ability to make you swagger around the streets. This song has the ability to make you feel like an absolute boss, as if no one can touch you and no one can bring you down.

Black Pistol Fire isn't a very well known band, nor is this a well known song. Which is kind of a sad thing, but then again, that also kind of allows the band to keep doing their own thing, which I really like. This is a song that takes some blues music and turns it into this wicked rock kind of sound. The band tends to use a lot of guitar work, not only as a source of melody but as rhythmic addition as well. In this song, Black Pistol Fire makes an aggressive attack on the blues oriented rock scene with scratchy guitars and heavy drum solos. There is a stripped down nature to the song, giving us something that is purely blues rock. We don't get additional input from keyboards or synthesizers. Rather, this song is more about weaving the guitar lines through the drum lines. Relying on the guitars and drums gives the band and song, in general, this throwback kind of sound which is a little bit like old school punk mixed with very old school vocals. I really like the vocalization in this song because it has this deeper, older, and rougher touch to them. The slightly muffled but incredibly raspy and gritty voice serves a the perfect compliment to the more fierce blues sound. The blues undertones is what makes this song important. Not only does it give the song musical direction, it helps develop the mood for the song.

This heavier rock and blues song is one that really makes you feel like you walk in and own the place. I am not going to lie, I absolutely love that feeling. This is a song that catalyzes my level of confidence and makes it skyrocket. It has that harder sound to it, the kind of sound that calls out to the inner bad ass. This song is used in a few television shows, but the one I think it fits in best with was when it was used in Suits. Everything about this song fills the essence that is Harvey Specter, the lead character. The song is intense, yet it also evokes images of nonchalant swagger. Black Pistol Fire did an incredible job of staying true to the blues roots, even while slashing away at the guitar and drums. And keeping true to the blues is what makes this song really come together with that intensity and fierce flourish.

Today's instrumental song is by The Black Keys. This is one of their best songs in my opinion and of course, one of my favorites. This song is bursting with energy and that hardcore drum work makes this a thumping and bumping song. The drum work in this song is absolutely fantastic and it is what drives the majority of this song. Especially since this is a song where most of the dynamism comes from the vocals and not the guitar, the drums become even more important. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
