Blue Foundation and Interstellar

Image
Today I have music for you by the group known as Blue Foundation. Blue Foundation is a group that is most known for being a cinematic and electronic group. Their music has been featured in movies and television shows and has also been featured in some of the biggest movie franchises of the past seven years or so. This song is probably their most popular song and has been remixed quite a few times. This song is one of those transcendent and ethereal kind of electronic songs that drips with longing and pain in a way that you normally don't expect from electronic music. A lot of electronic music has the reputation of being loud and energetic and crazy and wild, but this song is one that really expresses the idea of facing your demons and fighting them off. This song was written and produced during a time when producer Tobias Wilner was going through a very tough time and the lyrics and instrumentation of this song is a pure expression of this struggle. This is one of those songs that ...

Placebo and Westworld

Image
Yesterday was a wonderful holiday, and for those of you who celebrate Christmas, I hope it was a very merry one. And with the holiday over, it is time to get back to the music! So today I wanted to start off with a song that is a little bit more on the intense side. This song is one of my absolute favorite covers. Placebo is not a very well known band, but they have created a masterpiece. This song is originally by Kate Bush. However, Placebo has taken the song and made it something that is hauntingly dark and eerily beautiful. In a way, they still maintain that sound from the original song, but instead of making this a fast song, Placebo makes us linger in this state of dark limbo. And I love that they make us do that! Placebo prolongs that haunting nature until we feel fully immersed in the song. Placebo takes the original song and strips it down till the song becomes something rawer. The multiple synthesizers are taken away in favor of just one. And this single synthesizer doesn...

Christmas Eve

Happy Christmas Eve! I hope you enjoy some of the season's favorites!

Nat King Cole and Cinderella

Image
Today I have some music for you from the age of slow jazz and smooth swing. Nat King Cole is one of my absolute favorite swing and jazz singers, and with holiday season in full decor, this seemed like the perfect accompaniment. Nat King Cole has a warm and rich voice that has the ability to melt any heart, and he does just that with this song. One of the best things about this era in music is that it takes romantic to another level. This kind of music is very sweet and hopelessly romantic, which is something we don't really hear often from music nowadays. But somehow that romantic sound translates over really well during holidays. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, this time of year is one that is full of little treasures. From snow falling to warm cookies to sitting by the fire, there is a lovely coziness to this time of year. And of course, it is much more enjoyable with someone else. Which is why this song is so reminiscent of this holiday season. But this song is so incred...

Airlift and East of Eden

Image
Today I have some music for you that comes from the world of Bollywood music. This comes from the movie Airlift, a new movie that is actually worth the time to watch. Unlike most Bollywood movies beforehand, this is a movie that is actually full of substance and is honestly a wonderful story line. This is a movie that is about the real world, the issues and dangers that are seen in the Eastern hemisphere. And for once, this is a Bollywood movie that is not centered on the romance, but on the actual meaning and significance of the movie. Now this song is sung by Arijit Singh, a man with a voice like pure honey. I mean this song is incredibly beautiful and the vocals in the song are just as melodious as the instrumental accompaniment. What I love about songs like this is that they are starting to embrace this wonderful acoustic kind of song, something that is more subdued and raw rather than bustling with energy. This is a song that is lovely and calming, something that makes you feel wa...

TRINIX and Kygo

Image
Today I have some fun and chilled out music by the French DJ duo, TRINIX. This is chill house and deep house to the core, which is absolutely great for all those nights you want to just lounge around and listen to some music. This song has a nice calm to it. There isn't a lot of excess noise in the background, and the overall mood of the song is something that is really laid back. What I like is that there are very soft wubs throughout the song which act almost like heartbeat pulses. I really like that kind of sound because that makes the music seem even more alive. It is as if the music has a rhythmic heart beat the way we do, and that feeling is something that can send chills up my spine! This song has a delicate sound to it, which is interesting to note. It isn't one of those hard hitting or robust kind of electronic songs. This is something that is light and soft, something that is a bit more fragile. One beat or drop that gets too hard and the entire effect is ruined. Ther...

Jonas Blue and Moana

Image
Today I have some music for you by the DJ known as Jonas Blue. I thought that on a cold wintery day like this, a little reminder of some sunshine and beach time would be welcome! And that is exactly what we get with Jonas Blue. This is a DJ that really pulls off that tropical and tiki kind of vibe. His musical style is definitely different yet similar to Kygo's which is really cool. With Kygo, we get that tropical house sound which is fun and soft and carefree. We hear that same kind of sound with Jonas Blue, however it is taken in a different direction. Instead of focusing more on the house part, Jonas Blue takes his music towards the tropical sound. He takes it in the direction of that Caribbean and Hawaiian kind of tropical sound, which is something unique and refreshing! Jonas Blue is actually a great introduction to the genre of tribal house. This is definitely similar to tropical house, however focuses more on live instrumentation rather than synths. These are the kinds of s...
