Atif Aslam and Sonu Nigam

Image
Today I had the opportunity to be in the presence of two of the most incredible singers I have ever heard live. Atif Aslam and Sonu Nigam are two Bollywood playback singers, and my oh my are they ridiculously talented. I have to say, out of all the concerts I have attended, this is one of the greatest shows I have been to. Each vocalist was stunning, singing their own hits as well as covers of others. They paid tribute to some of the trailblazers in Bollywood music, and all in all delivered performances that were breathtaking. What I find magical about Indian music, is that each song is sung with full heart and meaning. Hindi is a deep language, and the way that these singers perform completely conveys that depth of emotion. Atif Aslam has a deeper and stronger voice, a voice that is like molasses. Sony Nigam has a voice like birdsong. His voice is sweet and beautiful, playful and romantic. Both singers have incredible skill and technique, and because of that, every song seems effortle...

Troyboi and Coyote Kisses

Image
Today I have music for you by an artist who absolutely killed it at his concert this evening. I had the chance to see the South London DJ by the name Troyboi, and man did he do an amazing job. Troyboi has a very different electronic style of music. It is a style that could have only been brewed in the underground, and that is exactly where Troyboi comes from. He is one of London's closely guarded secrets, an artist who has won over the electronic world. His work is something that is indescribably unique. Troyboi doesn't fit into a certain genre because his style is one that he has created on his own. Troyboi is an incredibly versatile musician, one who has blended different genres and sounds together so that we get a sound that is full of textures and dynamism, branding Troyboi as an artist who is extraordinarily unique. Troyboi has created songs that are anthems and songs that are transcendent. They key stylistic element to his music is the way he creates a song with a slowed...

Muse and Depeche Mode

Image
Today I am back to bring you some music! This week has been an absolute nightmare, so I apologize for slacking on the posting. But today I have a song for you by Muse. I don't know why this song randomly made its way into my head, but I haven't been able to shake it for a while. This song is off the album they released a few years ago and may be their most notable album. This album was very different when compared to the rest of their older music. The entire musicality of this album is unlike anything we have heard from Muse. This album is all about that blend of electronic synths and rock music, a sound that if any band could pull off, would be Muse. What I love about Muse's version of this style of music is that it still retains that darkness that is very characteristic of Muse. They take the electronic work on that more intense level, creating intricate melodies and harmonies that create that overcast feeling we get when listening to their music. This song, in particular...

Dominique and Freddie Joachim

Today I have music for you by a producer who goes by the stage name Dominique. For starters, I am a huge fan of this name. It's a really cool way of spelling the name and it's even a little sexy. But this song is actually the Manotett remix of the original song, and I absolutely love this version. This is a very chilled out song, definitely airing on the side of calm. This kind of electronic music is slowly starting to makes it way out of the underground into more popular streams of media. It is that very calm and controlled kind of sound, with a clear electronic emphasis as well as a focus on vocal dynamism. Songs like this often have a chorus that gets repeated multiple times throughout the song, but it is that specific chorus sound that the rest of the song molds around. The vocals in this chillstep style of music are very important because of how much character and flavor and sensuality it adds to the song. A lot of these kinds of songs feature soft female vocals, and I thi...

Us The Duo and Phoenix

Image
Today I have a fun and bubbly song for you by the couple known as Us The Duo. I have to say, this song was actually pretty cute! This is definitely a romantic song, but it is put to such a lively pop beat, giving the song a more dance vibe than anything else. This song definitely has a little bit of a pop rock vibe as well, something that I could imagine hearing from a band like Neon Trees or Phoenix. I haven't heard much new music like this in a while, and I really love listening to this style of music again. There is a really nice warmth that comes with a song like this, something that you can't get from just a rock song or just a pop song. It is the elements of pop synths and rock beats that bring this song together very well. Another thing I really like about this song is the fact that it is not overly ambitious in trying to create a boisterous kind of sound.  Us The Duo does a very good job of making this a song that is vivacious and pleasant and the way the vocals are sha...

The Weeknd & Daft Punk and Fergie

Image
Today is all about the latest in the music world, so we are starting off with an interesting collaboration done by Daft Punk and The Weeknd. Now I am not necessarily surprised by this combination. Daft Punk likes to get creative with their work, and this song is no different. The Weeknd is unlike any other artist they have worked with before, and Daft Punk is a duo that The Weeknd probably wouldn't have even thought about working with. But these two artists have come together to create a song that isn't really either artists' style. That is what makes this song pretty interesting to listen to, because in all honesty, I have not been able to decide if I like it or not. This song is definitely an evolutionary step for Daft Punk, as I have never heard them produce a song as chilled out and mellow as this one. I will say, Daft Punk's beats serve as a great support to The Weeknd's vocals, and there is a good bopping energy to it.Perhaps the reason I am a little thrown by...

Amy Winehouse and Nat King Cole

Image
Today I have music for you by an artist who is one of the most iconic singers of the common era of music. Amy Winehouse had a voice that was sultry and powerful, a voice that was recognizable anywhere and everywhere. Her voice is a beautifully raspy voice which gives her songs that feeling of being lost in a smoky jazz room. Amy Winehouse was a woman of many gifts and talents, most known for her vocal capabilities. She is the kind of singer who captured the calmer and the more subtle and provocative nature of jazz music while being very upfront and open about mouthing off. There is a very charming nature to her music because of that, and it is hard to not be seduced by her originality and creativity. One of the things that make Amy Winehouse such an icon for this generation, is her modern twist to an older style of music. Swing and jazz were once the most popular sound, and Amy Winehouse beautifully takes that style and makes it her own. She adds her own rebellious spirit to the music,...
