Muse and Depeche Mode

Today I am back to bring you some music! This week has been an absolute nightmare, so I apologize for slacking on the posting. But today I have a song for you by Muse. I don't know why this song randomly made its way into my head, but I haven't been able to shake it for a while. This song is off the album they released a few years ago and may be their most notable album. This album was very different when compared to the rest of their older music. The entire musicality of this album is unlike anything we have heard from Muse. This album is all about that blend of electronic synths and rock music, a sound that if any band could pull off, would be Muse. What I love about Muse's version of this style of music is that it still retains that darkness that is very characteristic of Muse. They take the electronic work on that more intense level, creating intricate melodies and harmonies that create that overcast feeling we get when listening to their music. This song, in particular, is a beautiful blend of orchestral instruments, the band, and synths. More importantly, this song is all about the usage of the keytar. Muse is one of the few popular bands that really makes good use of the keytar and makes it a centerpiece. Now this song has gotten some backlash in the past for being too much of a departure for the band. I mean Muse is all about experimenting, but there are some who think they may have gone too far with this song. I, however, am not one of those people. Personally, I really like this weirdly gothic take on a track that sounds like it could have been produced by Timbaland. There are really smooth R&B elements to this song that really work for me. I love the way that darker kind of sound still works. This song is one that is more tuneful than anything else. There are no huge crescendos or powerful movements, but what it does provide is a sense of balance. The album that this song comes from is one that tends to have a lot of high energy and epic songs. This ominous addition to the album gives us a different side of the album's subject matter.  I will say, this song does give off quite the Depeche Mode vibe, and that is where I kind of wish there was a little bit more variety there. But then again, if you are going to emulate a popular British band, Depeche Mode is not a bad way to go! Muse has done a really fine job with this song. While they have experimented with some weird stuff in the past, this is one that has gone very well. I thoroughly enjoyed this song and the album as a whole! Today's instrumental song is by the band that makes music which inspired the first song. Depeche Mode is one of the most famous bands from the 80s. Their music is what really inspired electronic rock, coming out with songs that feature the underrated keytar. Depeche Mode is one of those bands that we all recognize. There is always one song that everyone seems to know, and that is what makes them great. There is a classic nature to them and they have clearly left a legacy. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
