The Weeknd & Daft Punk and Fergie
Today is all about the latest in the music world, so we are starting off with an interesting collaboration done by Daft Punk and The Weeknd. Now I am not necessarily surprised by this combination. Daft Punk likes to get creative with their work, and this song is no different. The Weeknd is unlike any other artist they have worked with before, and Daft Punk is a duo that The Weeknd probably wouldn't have even thought about working with. But these two artists have come together to create a song that isn't really either artists' style. That is what makes this song pretty interesting to listen to, because in all honesty, I have not been able to decide if I like it or not. This song is definitely an evolutionary step for Daft Punk, as I have never heard them produce a song as chilled out and mellow as this one. I will say, Daft Punk's beats serve as a great support to The Weeknd's vocals, and there is a good bopping energy to it.Perhaps the reason I am a little thrown by this song is that Daft Punk has a very minimalistic presence in this song. They really don't do much more than produce the song and provide some beats. Now I think it is safe to say that Daft Punk definitely has more of an influence in this song than we think, mainly because Daft Punk has mastered the art of production, making subtle something that is possible. The smooth, rhythmically dominant sound has Daft Punk written all over it, which I really like and miss. We get a slight taste of their unique French house style and that is very much appreciated. Crisp vocals are featured, as well as some really nice harmonies, which is a product of The Weeknd's style of music. I guess with this song we get a little bit of each artist, but both music acts are very different so the collaboration doesn't really sound like something they would do. I think this is a song that really has to grow on you. There is a really nice chill to the song, something that makes this a more relaxed dance jam. I will say, the lyrical matter of this song isn't something I was too impressed with, but it seems as if The Weeknd is trying to go for the super confident nature that we get with artists like Drake and Kanye West. All in all, this is a song that I think I like but have yet to be able to really confirm how I feel. What do you all think? Is this something you like or dislike? Today's instrumental song is kind of a throwback to one of my favorite songs by Fergie. I mean this song never gets old for me. And in a way, this song is like what a more chilled out hip hop song sounded like ten years ago. This song isn't one of those bass heavy songs, and while the beat is a little fast, everything about this song is still pretty calm and low key. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
