EDEN and The Revenant

Image
Today I have music for you by an artist out of Ireland. EDEN is an artist I recently heard, and I was immediately captivated. I mean, I couldn't pull away from this song! This song is eerily enchanting, something that we all actually love hearing, but don't necessarily realize. This song has so many great things happening in terms of production. All the pieces of this song come together so perfectly, even more perfectly than clockwork. For starters, the instrumentals are phenomenal. I mean they are ridiculously superb. Now the reason why, is because there are layers, so many intertwining layers that create a full body of sound. There is never a moment when the song feels like it is missing something, never a moment when the song seems to be off set or off balanced. The actual music production is simply stunning. The synths and keyboard take up a lot of the work in this song, being the source of complex melodies and harmonies, but also providing a sense of ease and a sensation o...

ZOX and Jason Mraz

Image
Today's song is by a band from Rhode Island called ZOX. This band has a very upbeat and fun sound to it What I find so interesting and entertaining about this song is how it has a reggae and rock sound to it! The energy it brings is something I have heard before, but the actual melodies are quite different and brilliant! Now a lot of rock bands today are not necessarily focusing on the reggae specific sound, but the music industry in general is starting to see a reemergence of that Caribbean style sound. And I love that because who doesn't like that chilled out, calm, and bubbly kind of music? Now what sets this band apart from other bands that employ the reggae technique is that the vocals do not necessarily match. I mean, the vocals fit the band and musicality of the group, but at the same time, there is something about these vocals that give this song a more dynamic sound. I guess if you put the music on wave crests, the instrumentals have the vocal wave next to i...

Jessie Ware and Sia

Today I have some more underground music for you. What I love about the underground scene is that there is no real genre specific sound that defines what underground music is. Today's song falls in line with the more R&B and electronica kind of sound. This is like the more underground European pop scene, which honestly is really cool to me. The thing that I like so much about European music is that their sound is so completely different from American pop music. Which is really funny because a lot of people think Western music is one big group of similar sounding music. But how completely wrong that is! European pop seems to have more depth to it in my opinion. It is not necessarily the happy and bubbly kind of pop that we have in the States, but it is something that relies heavily on creating a sound that mixes electronic work with other sounds, generally R&B. Which is why I love this song! This song is by the English singer-songwriter Jessie Ware. And yes, she is definitel...

The 1975 and The Imitation Game

Image
Today I have music for you from one of my favorite bands ever, The 1975. I realized that despite the fact that they released a new album, I haven't actually posted about the album! The greatest thing about this band is that they are the biggest band that nobody has heard of. I mean when you go out into mainstream media and music, The 1975 is not a name one hears. Their music is something that isn't heard and from the surface, more people seem to have no idea who they might be. But when they come in town for concerts, you see lines of people waiting to get into the venues, fan girls, everything! The 1975 has such a low key and quiet following, but a huge one. And that is kind of an amazing thing to be able to have! Of course the reason why The 1975 is able to have such adoring fans is  because their music is incredibly relatable. Many of these topics are that which we see everyday, but the views on these ideas and thoughts are unconventional and raw. There is a natural honesty t...

Sigur Rós and Vikings

Image
Today I have some wildly sick music for you. The band Sigur Rós is one of the most eclectic and hauntingly incredible bands I have ever heard. This is one of those bands that people seem to know about but also not know a thing about. Struggle, I know. But, for those of you who have never heard of  Sigur Rós or know the name but no songs, this is a special treat for you. If there is one thing I have learned from my dabbles in literature, entertainment, and music, you really only get to experience these things for the first time once. I know it sounds so stupid, but when you think about it, the reality of that is there. You only get to experience something for the first time once. That elation and excitement and complete shock and utter bliss is something that you feel from experiencing something for the first time will never happen again once you have experienced it. So for those of you who are first hearing Sigur Rós, I hope you really enjoy this first exposure to this band a...

Aquilo and Never Let Me Go

Image
Today I have new music for you by a duo who is not well know, but have a really special place in my heart. Aquilo is one of the most interesting bands I have ever heard and I am absolutely in love with their music because of that. One way their music is defined is as a kind of electronica. Normally, when people think of electronica music, their minds go to dance singles and club jams, the things that are full of energy and are fun and active and lively. But Aquilo is not that. Aquilo is a rare kind of band and artist, one who takes what we think of one thing and turns it into something different. Aquilo is a rather mellow and dreamily sad artist, one who hones in on the side of life that is not normally described by electronic music. Their music has a soft calm to it, a sound that is so hauntingly beautiful and positively moving. Now this song has not been officially released yet, however Aquilo has done a live rendition of this and released that, and let me tell you, it is heart break...

Rudimental & Ed Sheeran and Sigma

Image
Today I have some really cool music for you from the musically inclined lands of England. This song is by the band Rudimental, and features the vocals of Ed Sheeran. I have had this song stuck in my head and it is one of those few songs that you don't get tired of because it really is that good. Now this song is actually really well done and has an extremely original sound. Rudimental is the kind of group that is known for having a distinct style, one that often includes a lot of synthesizer work and house beats. But this song is very different in both sound and instrumentation. This is a song that is piano heavy, opening the entire song with a piano melody. But when you listen to the song as a whole, the way the piano is used also kind of changes. At the beginning it feels like an accompaniment for Ed Sheeran's voice. But once the synths are thrown in, the piano helps give the song a more ambient and euphoric sound. But while the song has that ambient background, there is also...
