Rudimental & Ed Sheeran and Sigma
Today I have some really cool music for you from the musically inclined lands of England. This song is by the band Rudimental, and features the vocals of Ed Sheeran. I have had this song stuck in my head and it is one of those few songs that you don't get tired of because it really is that good. Now this song is actually really well done and has an extremely original sound. Rudimental is the kind of group that is known for having a distinct style, one that often includes a lot of synthesizer work and house beats. But this song is very different in both sound and instrumentation. This is a song that is piano heavy, opening the entire song with a piano melody. But when you listen to the song as a whole, the way the piano is used also kind of changes. At the beginning it feels like an accompaniment for Ed Sheeran's voice. But once the synths are thrown in, the piano helps give the song a more ambient and euphoric sound. But while the song has that ambient background, there is also this kind of funk and groove thrown in. I personally think that style really starts to show itself once the more tropical lines get layered on. The funk also comes from the way the guitar is used. Normally, Ed Sheeran uses his guitar in a more acoustic way, but this song is really different. Rudimental is, again, a band that really likes to use electronic mediums, and because of that, this song features the steel drum. Which is something Ed Sheeran does not normally employ in his music. But one thing that he does have in his music which we hear in this song, is the vocal layering. Ed Sheeran harmonizes with himself and therefore likes to layer on the vocal work. We definitely hear that in this song, especially since one of the main harmony lines comes from Ed Sheeran's voice, not the instruments. And I am a huge fan of that! I love it when a singer is ballsy and excited enough to record both the melody and the harmonies wanted. It definitely is not easy to maintain those distinctions when performing, so when it is done we all take notice of that feat. Weirdly enough, this song has really good dance beats, and is the kind of song you don't necessarily get down to, but is a song that I can hear being remixed at the club. It does have a slower tempo, but I also feel like it has a lot of dance floor potential This is definitely more of an underground European sound, which makes it even cooler. This is the kind of song that makes me want to go out at night and go to an underground party or something. Or get in a car and drive and cruise down the highway. There is this really upbeat sound the the song even though it is a slower tempo. But that in itself is something that is so great about Rudimental. They know how to work the individual pieces to their highest potential. Being able to produce a song that is slower but still has a huge amount of energy is not an easy feat. I don't think Rudimental let me down at all with this song, and of course neither did Ed Sheeran! Today's instrumental song is by Sigma. This is a song that was used in a recent Kanye West song, and so now some people can't even take this seriously. But it is nice when people have not heard the original and then fall in love with it. This song definitely uses the piano a lot, and it still sounds pretty dope to me! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
