Keeping It Fresh

Today I have some music for you by the singer-songwriter Matthew West. Now this is a man who is a popular artist in a lesser listened to genre. Yes, he does technically count as a Christian artist, but that doesn't stop me from listening to his music. Inspiration and an outstretched hand can come from anywhere, and I openly embrace music from all cultures and religions. That being said, if you are not a huge fan of the fact that this is considered Christian rock, I would like to thrown in this bit of two sense. This song never uses the words "God" or "Christ" or any other related words. This is a song that is about the human existence, the human desire to really live instead of going through life with no direction. Matthew West is a wonderful singer and I really like what he did with this song. There is a bit of cleverness to the lyrics of this song. Since the inspiration behind the song was about a surgery that could have been career shattering, there are some ...

Today I have music for you by a rapper that has had a huge presence in the the rap scene recently. Future is a rapper that has been both praised and criticized, but either way, no one can deny his popularity in music right now. This song is one that is very different in comparison to the other songs I have heard from Future. For one, there is a lively intensity to the song. A lot of Future's songs have that standard hi[ hop and rap beat to it, the one that kind of identifies a song as a rap one from the get go. Generally it is a noticeable bass and snare drums that make up the musicality of the song. And the other thing with Future is that his songs are like the slow jam version of rap. They don't necessarily have a driving energy to them, which is fine since that is his thing. But this song is a nice change for a couple of reasons. I guess I should start off by prefacing this with the fact that this song was made for the soundtrack of the movie Creed. This is  a boxing movie, ...

Today I have some slower music for you by an artist who has stayed out of the spotlight, but really deserves to be in it. Kevin Garrett is a singer based out of New York, and he is not only a wonderful singer but a moving songwriter. Kevin Garrett is not just a singer, but also a storyteller. What I love about his music is that the lyrics are so much more than what you hear. There is so much more to their meaning than the surface value, what we can glean from the initial listen. This song is a tragically romantic ballad, one that really gets you into this mood of thinking and retaining this emotionally pensive nature. Kevin Garrett has created an album that is sophisticated and incredibly well produced, compositions that are infused with elements of pop and soul and some soft rock. What he does with this short album, is create a completely unique soundscape which is carried throughout the album. I won't lie, there is room for believing that the songs sound similar, but there is sti...

Today I have such a great, euphoria song for you all by Jus Jack. This song has everything you need for a great trance song-awesome melody, great transitions, and incredible vocals. This does have a Tiesto feel to it, but I really enjoy this song and I was definitely fist pumping in my room and mentally fist pumping in the gym. It is one of those songs that takes you to another state of being which is just the most amazing feel in the world. This is the kind of song that you know will have some wicked remixes and would spend a lot of time being played at clubs and dance venues. This song has this strong festival kind of feel to it, which is always perfect for the summer time jam sessions Jus Jack definitely is a smaller name in the electronic music world, but it s a name that could start to take off, especially if we keep hear anthems like this. Today's instrumental song is by Tiesto and by putting these two songs together, you might hear why I find them having similar styles. This...

Today I have some music for you by PKeys. Now I have to be totally honest, this is an artist who is underground enough to make it very hard to find any information on him. Which in a way is really good for him, maintaining the air of mystery and having us want to know more and more. Now this is a song that is a very good house song. What is nice is that it starts out with this beautiful piano and vocal solo, nothing else. The entire opening verse is just the vocals and piano, which already sets the mood of the song to be something that is not super intense, but is something that has a very good energy to it. This is not an overly energetic song, but it is not a relaxed and laid back song either. It is actually pretty cool how the only time the electronic elements come into play is during the chorus of the song. This is pretty different for an electronic song, which is why I am actually hesitant to call this a house song. It is and is not at the same time, and is definitely something I ...

Today I have some music for you that comes from the world of Bollywood music. This comes from the movie Airlift, a new movie that is actually worth the time to watch. Unlike most Bollywood movies beforehand, this is a movie that is actually full of substance and is honestly a wonderful story line. This is a movie that is about the real world, the issues and dangers that are seen in the Eastern hemisphere. And for once, this is a Bollywood movie that is not centered on the romance, but on the actual meaning and significance of the movie. Now this song is sung by Arijit Singh, a man with a voice like pure honey. I mean this song is incredibly beautiful and the vocals in the song are just as melodious as the instrumental accompaniment. What I love about songs like this is that they are starting to embrace this wonderful acoustic kind of song, something that is more subdued and raw rather than bustling with energy. This is a song that is lovely and calming, something that makes you feel wa...

Today I have some new music from the American DJ known as KSHMR. This is a DJ that is often under the radar and doesn't spend much time in the spotlight. But my God is this man an absolute genius and one of the most genuinely original artists I have ever heard from the EDM world. This song is from the debut album he released, which is not just a compilation of songs, but is actually an original score that he composed. Not only that, but the score also comes with an accompanying animation sequence, and tells a vivid and meaningful story. I mean this is a story that has the depth and complexity of the literature read in classrooms. This album is a masterpiece, the obra maestra of the EDM world because of how rich and lush and full of life it is. This is not just a simple fairytale story, but is an album that must be listened to in order to fully understand. I love that so much because KSHMR is able to narrate a genuinely moving and powerful story through the guide of music, the ultim...
