KSHMR and DJ Snake

Today I have some new music from the American DJ known as KSHMR. This is a DJ that is often under the radar and doesn't spend much time in the spotlight. But my God is this man an absolute genius and one of the most genuinely original artists I have ever heard from the EDM world. This song is from the debut album he released, which is not just a compilation of songs, but is actually an original score that he composed. Not only that, but the score also comes with an accompanying animation sequence, and tells a vivid and meaningful story. I mean this is a story that has the depth and complexity of the literature read in classrooms. This album is a masterpiece, the obra maestra of the EDM world because of how rich and lush and full of life it is. This is not just a simple fairytale story, but is an album that must be listened to in order to fully understand. I love that so much because KSHMR is able to narrate a genuinely moving and powerful story through the guide of music, the ultimate universalizing method. My mind really cannot handle how incredibly amazing this concept is, I mean, when is the last time you heard of a DJ composing and producing his own score while across coming up with the story that the music is going to tell? The last time anything like this happened in the music world. M83 was composing the brilliant and moving and spellbinding score for a film called Oblivion. Now showcasing this as his debut solo album? Not only is it impressive, it is inspiring. What is amazing about this album is that KSHMR draws from his roots and infuses them into the electronic and sometimes orchestral based songs he composes. KSHMR is of Indian descent, so we get to hear a good number of Indian themed pieces in his film-score worthy soundtrack. I mean between the electronic work and story telling, we get something that is so orchestrally complex, something that goes beyond having beats and melody and lyrics. Now this song in particular is one that has a bit of a tropical vibe going on. with a blend of production techniques and captivating sounds to make the whole song come together. The songs actually opens up with that tropical house kind of sound before introducing the female vocals provided by Madi. Her voice is very light and ethereal, something that is like a feather gently sitting on the heavier electronic melodies. What is cool is that we get to hear the blending of styles in this song very well. The beginning starts out tropical, and then eventually gives way to something that is more house/trap oriented. KSHMR is not a bass heavy producer, putting more importance on the way the melodies and harmonies all come together. And we really hear that after the first chorus, especially when we are introduced to the more orchestral and chillstep kind of sound. The end is where we really hear the lines between the styles blur, as they all come together and create something that is euphonious and beautiful. The vocals and lyrics in this song are also not necessarily the main focus of the song, at least not for me. I didn't necessarily feel the need to pay strict attention to the lyrics or be swept away by them as much as I was genuinely swept away by the atmosphere of the song. There is a bit of an ambient feel to the song, but I like that. It expands the song in a way, allowing the song to diffuse all the different genre and stylistic sounds. I have to be honest, KSHMR did way more than just produce music, he created art. This album and song surpass the idea of being pieces of music and notes. KSHMR is an artist, someone who has written and told us a story through the music, not through the interludes. You must understand the music to understand the concept, and that idea in itself is one that is most beautiful and awe inspiring. Today's instrumental song is by the DJ known as DJ Snake. I won't lie I have had this stuck in my head for a while. However, this song has a very nice chilled out vibe to it, something that is perfect for kicking back and relaxing. This is not a song that is meant to be aggressively hype or extremely energetic, which I appreciate. This is a song that is more about the flow of the song and how it feels. There is a reason why DJ Snake became as popular as he did, and even greater reason this song is a high ranking one. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
