Neon Trees and Daft Punk

Image
Today I have some music for you by the band Neon Trees. They recently made their way to Dallas, and it was quite the show. One of the things that I absolutely love about Neon Trees is that they have very energetic music that stays kind of consistent. They do experiment a little bit, but they also tend to stick with their specific style. While a lot of times we like to see evolution in an artist's musical style, Neon Trees has something special going on with their music. Neon Trees is a band that is caught in the modern synth pop but also with that groovy retro sound that really makes them stand out. Neon Trees really takes that 80's sound and makes it completely their own with that modern twist. A lot of people try to do this, but Neon Trees does it so seamlessly and effortlessly. I think that is one of the things that first got me into their music. There is always this groove factor. Even with this song we get that grooviness and that dance feel from the beginning, while also ...

The Lonely Island

Image
Today I have some music for you by one of the best parody/satire/hilarious groups ever. The Lonely Island has made it to the top because of their ridiculously funny songs. This group includes Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone. For those of you who don't know, these three guys were a huge part of SNL for the better part of a decade. These guys were the ones in charge of all the SNL Digital Shorts that we all love watching over and over again on YouTube. While Andy Samberg is the one who is physically featured more, the other two took a huge lead in writing the words and creating the actual songs. What I love about The Lonely Island is that they have been doing this since high school. They have been together for that long of a time and have turned something they did for fun, into something that we all love and appreciate and laugh at. I won't lie, The Lonely Island is definitely known for being pretty raunchy, but I think that tends to add even more humor to the iss...

Skrillex and Feed Me

Image
So today I have some music for you as per suggestion of one of my very close friends. This song comes from Skrillex's first studio album. Now what I like about this song is that it features other artists, meaning, it features a lot of different styles. From this first album, we really hear the heavy dubstep that got Skrillex famous. I'd like to think he is at the forefront of making dubstep more mainstream. He is one of the biggest figureheads in dubstep music and I really appreciate the fact that he takes his style and establishes his music as an extension of his style instead of conforming to what the masses really want. This song is clear evidence of that. Moombahton is not a very popular genre, and to mix that with dubstep? Unheard of! But leave it to Skrillex to make this bomb song and combine two completely different sounds into something wicked. The drop in this song is pretty dirty and I love that it isn't too heavy so that all the other sounds get lost in the bass ...

Knife Party and Kill The Noise

Image
Today I have some really sick music for you from the EDM world. I had the chance to see Knife Party and Kill the Noise perform live tonight and its was an absolutely phenomenal show. There was so much bumping energy and just a great atmosphere. I am keeping it a bit simple and short today, but I really hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Bastille and Avatar

Today I have some music by a band that happens to be working on their next album. Bastille is one of the greatest bands to come to the forefront these past few years. This is a band that takes their music very seriously and has created such a style that is utterly recognizable among the thrall of other songs that are out there. I have to say, this song in particular is possibly my favorite song by Bastille. This is a song that has this incredible power to it in the sense that when you listen to it, it fills you with this incredible rush. Bastille has given this song such an exhilarating sound to it, the kind of feeling you get when you've done something amazing. It is the kind of feeling you get when you know that you are really living, really making the most of the moments you have. Which is perfect considering the lyrics and song topic! I think this is a very interesting route for Bastille to take because it is unlike a lot of the songs on their album. Bastille tends to work thei...

AN21 and Blasterjaxx

Image
Today's music is all about that big room house style. This first song is by AN21 and features Max Vangeli. It has a good beat and some pretty sweet drops. Plus the fusion of a piano chorus is pretty awesome! It seems that this harder style of EDM is starting to take a backseat in favor of house and trap. However, these songs are the ones that make you want to rage, and we shouldn't forget that! I thought it would be a nice change to get some music like this out there, so happy raging! Today's instrumental song is by Blasterjaxx and really pulls the crazy dancer out of you. Or just crazy in general. This song has so much energy and makes you get out there, its just something you have to do! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Olivver the Kid and The Neighbourhood

Image
Hey guys, sorry about not posting yesterday. I returned to Austin for a few days and got a little caught up in seeing the squad. But today I am back with some music for you! This song is by an artist who is really underground and also happens to be a solo artist. Olivver the Kid who also goes by just Olivver the Kid has a very interesting sound to his specific path of music. He likes to describe himself as an alternative kind of R&B artist, and this is a description I completely agree with. Olivver the Kid has a very soulful and sweet voice that is accompanied by guitars and synthesized percussion. The beat pattern he uses in his music, and in this song in particular, are slower and larger in a sense. The drumbeat is the most prominent instrumental sound we hear in this song. Of course in the bridges we get a beautiful background of keyboads and melodic synth sounds, but otherwise, we really get this full and heavy beat that is the backbone of the song. All the talk these days is a...
