Bastille and Avatar

Today I have some music by a band that happens to be working on their next album. Bastille is one of the greatest bands to come to the forefront these past few years. This is a band that takes their music very seriously and has created such a style that is utterly recognizable among the thrall of other songs that are out there. I have to say, this song in particular is possibly my favorite song by Bastille. This is a song that has this incredible power to it in the sense that when you listen to it, it fills you with this incredible rush. Bastille has given this song such an exhilarating sound to it, the kind of feeling you get when you've done something amazing. It is the kind of feeling you get when you know that you are really living, really making the most of the moments you have. Which is perfect considering the lyrics and song topic! I think this is a very interesting route for Bastille to take because it is unlike a lot of the songs on their album. Bastille tends to work their songs into the grey scale, not necessarily happy and bright but not cold and dark either. This song however is one that is filled with this fantastic energy and amazing vibes, From Dan Smith's voice to the keyboards and synths to the percussion, we get this feeling of that pure rush. This is the kind of song that makes you feel like you have experienced the greatest things life has to offer. It makes you relive those moments that you will never forget. That time you went sky diving, the time you made it to the top of the cliff face or mountain, the time you danced the night away with friends or a significant other. Those special moments and achievements that fill you with the purest sense of contentment and excitement and happiness. This is what this song makes me remember and associate with it. The lyrics to the song are also phenomenal because it questions you. It questions if you have become the person you dreamed of being, if you've done the things you always wanted. It makes you really consider the way you've lived, if you have made it the greatest experience that you can. And that is one of the things that I love most about Bastille. This is a band that purposefully makes us think, pay attention to lyrics, and think outside the box. This song is a little more straightforward in terms of meaning, but at the same time, the depth of that meaning is endless. Add the music on top of all that and you are left with a masterpiece that speaks to everyone. This song has a contagious energy to it. There is some wonderful synth and keyboard work which we can hear as the opening to the song. Accompanying that is of course the drums and guitar, making this a more musically complex song but also something that doesn't feel chaotic. I am also in love with Dan Smith's voice. He has a soft but powerful voice, one that has the ability to calm you down or make you soar. I had the pleasure of hearing him perform live in Dallas and it was the greatest thing ever! He sounds even better live because you hear even more of the passion and you can see how much he loves singing and making music. I think hearing the song definitely makes it easier to understand where I am coming from as to why this is possibly the best Bastille song. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Avatar. The composer of this score is James Horner, an absolutely wonderful composer. The workmanship with how this composed is simply beautiful. There are so many ethnic flairs to the song in the way the choir and percussion are provided and it is astounding. This song acts like a reminder that not all songs need to have lyrics to be impactful and meaningful. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
