Today I have some more foreign music for you, from the world of Korean music. I have to say, I have really gotten into Korean music. Not the stereotypical K-Pop kind of music, but some more of the more intense kind of music. This song is by the boy band EXO. Now I say boy band, but only because it is made up of a bunch of guys and they dance. But that is pretty much where the similarity ends. EXO is a pretty big group with more members than would be expected from a boy band, but these numbers help this group so much. One of the things about Korean bands is that dance is a huge part of the song, just as much as the music. EXO has the numbers and the talent to fuel the dance side of their act, and they also have a wide range of voices to choose from when creating the actual song. Today I have some music for you by a more low key band called Bad Suns. My primary exposure to this band was at The 1975 concert. Bad Suns was the opening act and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Having my first listen be a live one was very interesting because I could form a better opinion about the band, and I was very impressed. The lead singer of this band has some seriously strong vocals that carry through and really fill up the space of sound. There is a full richness to that voice which embodies the soul of rock extremely well, and the tone of his voice is one that I have not heard from a rock band in sometime. Part of me is reminded of bands like The Killers and Linkin Park, and Bastille-trademark voices. This song has some nice vocal harmonization to it and a pinch of angst which rounds the vocals out very nicely. There is really nice guitar work in this song as well. Today I have some music for you by the sexy and suave singer known as Miguel. This is possibly one of my favorite songs by him. This song showcases his voice so incredibly well because we get to hear the strength and passion in his voice. This song is something that I could see being a classic jam because it has smooth flow to it that you can't help get really into. This is a guy who croons some slow jam, love-making kind of music. But what is really cool about this song is that while it does sound up to speed and up to date, there is this deep traditional soul that kind of runs through the song. Miguel's honey rich vocals just pour over you and make you feel completely covered in luxury. With the song title and metaphor, Miguel really makes us feel that sexiness and luxury with the way he sings this song. Today's song is by the London native band, Placebo. This song has a very eerie and haunting sound to it, that is so entrancing and beautifully dark. The lead vocals mixed with the accompanying music gives this song a deeper, colder, and darker meaning to the song, compared to the original. I prefer this version myself, but that of course is subject to opinion! I love this song and find it chilling and haunting. It is the kind of song that can send those deep shivers up your spine and through your entire being. But these are not chills of fear or horror. These are ones of truly feeling. There is so much depth to the way this song is structured and performed. When you hear the original song, there is more of a dance vibe and 80's vibe to the song. I personally don't think it goes well with the darkness that is written into the words of the song. But Placebo takes full advantage of the ability to make this a haunting and eerie song. Today I have some ethnic music for you. It has been quite some time since I have posted any Bollywood music and I thought, why not today? This song is a really nice one because it is kind of out of the normal scope of Indian music. This song is sung by one of my favorite singers, Atif Aslam and features Mahira Khan. What makes this song so different is the fact that it is pretty acoustic and uses more Western music instruments and styles. But somehow, the song still has a little bit of that Indian flare to it. The guitar work in this song is very pleasing to the ear and has this really nice harmony going on between the two. The opening introduces us to a singular guitar melody that both artists play, but then the both separate into their respective parts. One of the things that makes this so cool is that Atif Aslam actually slaps the guitar to create that percussion-esque beat. Today's song is by a group out of Sydney, Australia called Sparkadia. This song is so incredibly awesome because of how unique and original this song is. It has indie influences but is also surrounded by an alternative and electro sound. Honestly, I think it belongs in a genre of its own because it is that different. I highly recommend you look more into this band because they are so freaking great! And when you get about two-thirds of the way into the song, there is this underlying electric bass sound that makes everything pop. Today's instrumental song is from the awesome movie World War Z. I had my reservations about this movie and I am glad that I was proved wrong. Its absolutely brilliant, and so is the soundtrack. Fun fact: Muse helped write it. Today I have some new music for you out of the world of EDM and electronic music. Today's first song is by Pierce Fulton. Honestly, I think he is an underrated artist. Pierce Fulton knows how to produce music that will rile up the crowd. There is always this insane amount of energy and sound that you can't help but jump and move and at least head bang some. This song is an explosion of sound and color. Now I know it is strange to think of a song as having a color, but when you hear a song and imagine, there is always a color that comes to mind. And with this song, there is this beautiful display of color from all ends of the spectrum. This song is just so lively and energetic and wild! I like that wildness because it is that of a world that is truly alive and truly living.
