Keeping It Fresh

Today I have music for you by Canadian singer Shawn Mendes. Now some people might have the belief that this kid is going to be like the next Justin Bieber, but I have some reasons that say otherwise. First of all, when you hear this song, the style is pretty different from where Justin Bieber is now. Shawn Mendes has a song that is somewhat intense, but in a very pop way. There is a very nice sense of building energy, especially with the percussion. The percussion coupled with the guitar creates this really cool march sound which I really like. It fits very well with his voice, which is my second voice. For 16 years old, Shawn Mendes has a really rich and deep voice. He has a voice that is a little bit gritty even and I can imagine this voice going along with an alternative or punk band. There is a maturity to his voice that is quite different from a lot of younger artists these days. Today I have some music for you by the band called Angels and Airwaves. For those of you who don't know, this band is a mix of members from other big rock bands. The lead vocalist is Tom Delonge from Blink 182 and other members of the band include those from Nine Inch Nails, The Offspring, and 30 Seconds To Mars. Angels and Airwaves is a band that I find to be really unique because the members bring styles from their respective bands and combine them together to get Angels and Airwaves. This is a band that does have a rock focus, but a lot of the music is also synth oriented and ambient. This is quite different in comparison to many other rock bands out there because of how synth and electronic driven this group is. This song in particular mixes the rock and snth elements to make a song that is hauntingly dark but still beautiful. Today I have music for you by a very low key independent artist known as Jimmy Needham. This is a man who definitely enjoys the low light, but somehow still shines above those in the spotlight. This is a man who really makes music for the love of music instead of all the other excuses some artists have. Jimmy Needham is a wonderful mix of Michael Buble and Jason Mraz which is actually the most magnificent thing in the world. Jimmy Needham has a wonderful voice, one that is warm and soft and lively. He has a voice that makes you feel really good inside and it just fills you with happiness. His tone is so warm and comforting to the point that even in his sadder or slower songs, I still feel. There is something whimsical and "sweep you off your feet" about this song and it can make anyone feel incredible. Today's song is by a band called Blue October. This song is more known than their other songs, but this song has an incredible blend of many different instruments. I love the feeling I get when I listen to this song, and the off tune melodies are so beautiful. This song is not a typical rock band style, which is one of the other reasons I love this song. Today's song is by the genius, Hans Zimmer. He uses so many different instruments to create this masterpiece! This piece is from the movie Interstellar. I have not seen this movie yet, but I have heard that this movie is absolutely incredible. This piece captures that free emptiness of space in an incredible way. Today's song is a remix of a song by Morgan Page, featuring Tegan and Sara. I love the energy of this song and the fact that you can actually dance to this song. Tegan and Sara is a phenomenal duo and both sisters are not only good singers, but they are great musicians. They create their own music and their own songs and it is some good stuff! They have this energy and charisma to them which is great. Now Morgan Page is a well seasoned DJ who has been at this for a long time. You can hear the skill with which he is able to work and collaborate with artists like these two. He is an expert at remixing as well, so when it comes to doing a song like this, he is a good choice.  Morgan Page is really good, and I recommend listening to more of his music. For today's song, I chose a very interesting sound. Breathe Carolina's sound is like electronic crunk met rock and collaborated. I love this song because the beat is bumping and makes feel like I can do fun, crazy, and a some reckless things. I love working out to this song also-it keeps me going even when I am feeling sore. This song takes on a heavier electronic sound than normal and the rock takes a bit of a backseat. But the cool thing is that there are still enough elements like the beat and melody that make it sound like it could belong to a rock song. Breathe Carolina took a really cool direction with this newer style and  I for one am a fan.Today's instrumental song is some electronica/house music. Today I have music for you from the movie Wish I Was Here. I actually just watched this movie and can tell you that it is quite a good movie. That is one of the things I love about indie films-they have so much value and substance and present it to you in a way that is unlike anything you could see. Yet, these movies touch the heart and soul in a way that no other film could. These movies make you think and reflect and really feel. This movie was phenomenal and I loved the theme of the film. The soundtrack for this movie is also amazing. There is something special about music used in indie films because they are made especially to capture a certain emotion or feeling or moment. For me, this song captures the moment of complete surrender to the world around you. This song is something that is pensive but freeing at the same time.
