Shawn Mendes and Avatar

Today I have music for you by Canadian singer Shawn Mendes. Now some people might have the belief that this kid is going to be like the next Justin Bieber, but I have some reasons that say otherwise. First of all, when you hear this song, the style is pretty different from where Justin Bieber is now. Shawn Mendes has a song that is somewhat intense, but in a very pop way. There is a very nice sense of building energy, especially with the percussion. The percussion coupled with the guitar creates this really cool march sound which I really like. It fits very well with his voice, which is my second voice. For 16 years old, Shawn Mendes has a really rich and deep voice. He has a voice that is a little bit gritty even and I can imagine this voice going along with an alternative or punk band. There is a maturity to his voice that is quite different from a lot of younger artists these days. He does not have that generic Disney or Nickelodeon sound which tends to accompany a lot of singers under the age of 16. He has a fully formed voice and sings with a back up instrumental that is beyond the typical pop and electronic nature of songs these days. In fact, Shawn Mendes doesn't even use electronic music to make this song and yet I still find it extremely catchy and well put together. Shawn Mendes has a great chorus and some snappy verses. He has taken the Ed Sheeran route and has a mix of rap and singing. Now this is not really fast rapping like Ed Sheeran does, but this is still respectable and easy enough for me to follow. There is something so likable about this song There is this great uptempo and peppy sound to this song that makes you feel the energy. It has this really cool and different way of making you feel that energy. There is a mix of acoustic, intense percussion, and general chorusing. I really like the fact that there is that choir-like chorus because it creates this idea that there are multiple people feeling the same way. It extends the feeling of greatness even further. Like the song title suggests, I think some good things are really starting to happen for Shawn Mendes. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Avatar. This song has some similarities to the first song. This one has some really incredible percussion use to make it have that really amazing tribal sound, but also that raw energy. If there is anything  have learned from listening to music and writing about it, the percussion is the energy of the song. It is what makes the song what it is. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
