Edward Maya and Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows

Image
Today I have music for you by an artist who kind of faded out of the spotlight after a big hit. Edward Maya is an incredibly talented artist and producer, and I really love the style he is associated with. Every one of his songs has some sort of exotic feel to it. This song in particular is actually a new take on a Romanian folk song, but the way he has done this mix, you can recognize the original tune and still feel that modern twist. Even though this is a Romanian folk song, there are elements to this song that sound very Middle Eastern and gypsy-like. This is actually one of my favorite things about Edward Maya's music. There is a definite Eastern feel and sound to his song which is completely different from the electronic songs we hear today. I haven't heard any other artist come out with a song that combines the mysterious and traditional sounds of the East with the modern interpretation of the West with the same level of success that Edward Maya does. The instrumental ch...

Clubfeet and Tove Lo

Image
Today I have music for you by a band that goes by the name Clubfeet. This song has a really cool sound to it. When you feel like listening to indie style electronic music, this group is one that can satiate your desire. This group has such a smooth sound to it but it falls on that psychedelic side of music as well. This song is one that is hard for me to describe because it sounds very familiar but also sounds very original from what I have heard before. I feel like this is something that could be featured on an episode of Teen Wolf. It has that independent and unique vibe and sound that no one else can copy. I am a huge fan of the way the vocals are presented because it is done so with layers. It is never just one voice and one sound you hear from the vocals, but many harmonies and different ways of singing the same lines. Something about that is very much like Imogen Heap's style of vocal layering. I also like the fact that they do maintain the conventional band instruments while...

Steve Aoki & Diplo and Deorro

Image
Today's song is an epic collaboration between Steve Aoki, Diplo, and Deorro. I won't lie, the lyrics are quite simple, but with artist like this, we weren't really in it for the lyrics anyway. This song is beyond sick. The bass in this song thrums strongly throughout the duration of the song and provides this heavy intensity that you can hear and feel, especially when there is a good bass to your sound system. I think you can clearly hear the influences of each artist in this song. The repetitive phrase in the music is very Diplo-esque. If you listen to some of Diplo's other music, you can definitely hear the correlation to this song. It has a sound like it is almost hitting the trap side of things, but doesn't quite want to go that far and straddles between trap and the EDM world. The moomba feel in this song is all due to Mr. Steve Aoki. The way he works and his style is definitely heard in the build up and drop. Those moments are very clearly his contribution to...

Da' Zoo and Wisin Y Yandel

Image
Today I have music for you from Puerto Rico by a group know as Da'Zoo. These artists, they know how to turn up the party vibes. This song has everything from a sick beat to hot back and forth between the guy and girl. The lyrics to the song are a little dirty, no doubt about it. But what's wrong with a little bit to spice things up a bit? And seeing as most people don't even understand what the lyrics mean, it's all good! But this song has a really wicked dance beat to it that is so different than your typical Latin style music. For one, this song relies heavily on the use of electronics and synth to make the awesome sounds. This group makes great use of the electric bass and there is this organic fluidity to the way the song sounds. There is definitely repetition but it doesn't feel like it because there is something slightly different in every verse. The lyrics stay the same but the way they are presented is different. For example, the last verse is the only one t...

For The Foxes and Jobs

Image
Today I have music for you by the group known as For The Foxes. This song is one of those awesome feel good songs, the kind that you can listen to at anytime and the one that makes you want to feel free. I don't know, there is something about this song that is both calming and driving at the same time. The soft drum and guitar work is very soothing, but the stylization of the melodies and harmonies excites you with the prospect of freedom. This song gives that feeling of wanting to be free, running around at night with friends and doing whatever it is you want to do. This song is seriously so chill and relaxing that I feel so at ease when listening to it. The vocals are extremely nice because there is this soothing and water like nature to the voice that makes it just flow over the ears and over you. The vocals are just so nice to listen to! This song deosn't really have a climax with the instrumentals, but the vocals do a good job of taking care of that. It changes from a deep...

Chris Malinchak & Mikky Ekko and Michael Jackson

Image
Today I have music by a DJ known as Chris Malinchak and features one of my favorite vocalists, Mikky Ekko. Chris Malinchak got some acclaim with his first big song and I can see why. This guy has really great talent in instrumentation and song production. The style of this song is so charming and has a great energy to it. This song sounds like what Michael Jackson hitting the electronic scene would sound like. Everything about this song captures the groovy disco and hip hop feel that Michael Jackson mastered and made his own. I could not stop dancing to this song no matter how many times I put it on repeat. Chris Malinchak has done a remarkable job with the instrumentation. The way he makes this song sound like a house song but also very funky is just genius. I honestly can't help but think that Michael Jackson had a great influence on this song. The moment Mikky Ekko opened his mouth to sing, all I could think about was how similar this sounds to 80's Michael Jackson music and...

Pitbull, Claudia Leitte, & Jennifer Lopez and Shakira

As many of you know, this year is the year of the FIFA World Cup. Now, I absolutely love football (soccer). This is a sport that people from literally every country watch and it is a sport that brings the world together. Part of me feels like FIFA is more unifying than the Olympics! This year we have seen some epic games and every game has been super exciting. The official song for the World Cup is also super exciting and I really like the fact that Pitbull decided to tone it down a little bit. This song sounds more appropriate for FIFA and I honestly think this is one of the best songs he has ever put out. This song really captures the feel of South America and the festive spirit of Brazil. The lyrics to this song are also very encompassing of the entire world and how football is something that can bring us together, even if its just for a moment. This song has a great beat and a phenomenally catchy chorus that really represents the energetic, fun, and vivacious nature of Brazil. Whil...
