Keeping It Fresh

Today I have some music for you by the artist known as Armand Van Helden. Now this is a guy who has been around in the music industry for a very long time. His name isn't one that is easily recognizable or recognized at all for that matter. But he is one of the biggest influences in the New York electronic music scene. He works with all kinds of genres, from funk to R&B to hardcore EDM. What I find really cool about Armand Van Helden is that despite the fact that he has been such an influential presence in the music scene of the Northeast, his music still sounds underground. He hasn't lost any sense of what his soundscape is supposed to sound like, and is very comfortable with creating sounds which eventually become the popular norm. There are still so many elements of his music that sound really nice and underground, very unique and quirky. Armand Van Helden tends to sample older songs, generally from the 80s or 90s. And he does so because of how rooted in funk and groo...

Today I have a song which is a very eclectic one. This song is a remixed version of a popular song from the 1950's. This was originally a swing based song, which was remixed by Bart & Baker. I have to be honest, I had never heard of Bart & Baker until hearing this song, but I really like what they did with this song! Instead of turning this song into a straight electronic remix, we get a smooth electronic swing song which is even better. Electro swing is one of the coolest and most fun genres out there. The energy and engagement that these songs have is just incredible. There is a nonstop fountain of excitement and strangeness and fun that you can't help but dance to the song. This song reflects a lot of electronic elements which I found really interesting. A lot of electro swing groups have that perfect blend of electronic and swing sounds. One normally doesn't overpower the other, and this song finds a great balance as well. This song even keeps the marimba and br...

Today I have some Bollywood music heading your way! It has been a while since I last posted anything from the world of Bollywood and Hindi music, and since I have had this song stuck in my head for quite some time, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to do some blogging on it! So this song is from a movie that recently came out, and is one of those songs that has weirdly caught on in terms of dance moves and popularity. In the Western world, we have songs that teach us how to dougie and how to hit the quan, but in India, this is the kind of dance anthem we get. What I love about Bollywood is that there is no one song that takes the prize for teaching dance moves. People tend to pick and choose the coolest moves form a variety of songs and then bring them all together to create something wickedly sick. This song is not one that is super high impact and energy, but is something that is more laid back. I wouldn't describe this song as being "chill" or calm, but there...

There are still so many elements of his music that sound really nice and underground, very unique and quirky. If you want further reference, there is a song by him that has gotten really popular. The name that he went by for that song though, is Duck Sauce. Go look it up, and you will know exactly which famous song I am talking about. But this song samples some older songs, songs which come from the 80's era of music. But he does so because of how rooted his music is in funk and groove jam...

Today I have music from a band out of Canada called Marianas Trench. This song is absolutely phenomenal! They skillfully and artfully combine a pop rock sound with older pop/swing music. This song is so fun to listen to and it always gets you up and dancing. It has that energy that will always pick you up and make you want to go out and go have fun! This band is one that I highly recommend delving deeper into, because they have incredible music and awesome vocals! The lead singer's vocal range is so impressive! Today's instrumental song is a version of a song by the always amazing Olly Murs. It is just as fun and energetic, and I love it! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

T oday I have music for you by a singer known as MØ. Her style is really cool and very different from anything I have ever. This song definitely utilizes the synths and keyboards and basic electronic devices to make the song sound really chill. But then the song hits you with this amazingly sick trumpet work and solos and it kind of blows you away. Her music is what gutsy electronic music would sound like. It has something really chill and suave, with the slower beats to make for large waves of sound, but it also has that pumped up energy of the brass instruments.  MØ is a pop singer, but is unlike any pop singer you have heard because she doesn't sing solely about sex, drugs, and so called love. She sings with a fierceness of both sound and style and she revels in that edgy sound. When most people think of edgy pop, they think of artists like P!nk. But MØ takes edgy to a different level of understanding. She is not afraid to incorporate different sounds and styles into her mu...

Today I have an extremely cool song by the artist know as Big Black Delta. This song is one of the most unique sounds I have ever heard! It has this cool jazz-ish feel to it while also having an electronic feel and indie vocals. I love the use of wind instruments in this song because of the way they are used to provide a complimenting melody to a thumping drum beat and long notes. Plus, this music video is one of the coolest things ever! I really love this song through and through. The sound is just so good! Today's instrumental song is from the movie Aladdin. Not only is this one of best Disney movies ever, it also has really good songs. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Today I have a really cool song by David Guetta for you. This song features Skylar Grey and the way the two of these artists work together is incredible. The mix of her sad, lyrical vocals and his energetic beats makes for something great. If anything, they intensify each other. Her vocals leading up to the drop are incredible and the drop itself is just awesome! She has an older soul sound to this song while Guetta provides the more modern energy and electronic sound. This song is just really really good! Today's instrumental song is from the movie The Great Gatsby. I liked this movie, especially since it was one of the few to actually follow the book well. And I can't lie, this is one of my favorite books. Goonrock did an awesome job with this song and I thought it kind of has a similar feel. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Today I have a very interesting mix of music for you. This first song is by the duo Yolanda Be Cool and producer DCUP. Some of you may be familiar with this song, and it is a pretty damn fantastic one! This song has a great balance of electro and swing which just makes it sweet as hell. It is one of those songs that can always make you feel good because of the vibes it has and the almost comedic nature of the song. Today's instrumental song is by Caravan Palace and is such an incredible genre mash up. I can find myself listening to this style of music all the time! It is just phenomenal and fun! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
