Live, Sik-K, PunchNello, Owen Ovadoz, & FlowSik and Kanye West
Hey everyone! I have been a bit MIA for the past week, I know. I was traveling for a bit and wasn't able to keep posting, but since I am back I am ready to start talking about some music! And to start us off, I wanted to post music which originates from the place I spent my last week - Korea. This is always an interesting style of music for me to write about because of how little yet incredibly well known Korean music is. Recently, we have seen the explosoin of Korean boy band BTS, as they have made their American debut and more. But, while this music is super hype and very well done, there are many other styles of Korean music out there other than K-pop. Which is what I have for you today!
Korean rap has to be one of the greatest styles of rap I have ever heard. There is so much that goes on throughout the song, from incredibly clever lyrics to sick beats. One of the things that Korean rappers do very well is flow changes. There are always some interesting beat and flow swtiches that happen in the music, and somehow it makes the song that much more hype. It creates this swag of gangster rap, and is then infused with the gritty sound that only Korean rappers can bring. And today's track gives us a taste of how multiple rappers like to create their own flows and rhymes.
Now most of these artists are not ones that I listen to on the regular. But this song mainly features Live, Sik-K, PunchNello, Owen Ovadoz, and FlowSik, and despite the heavy features list, there is an incredible synchornizaiton to the song. It works like a well oiled machine, all the rappers perfectly in place and spitting out carefully crafted lines on top of a wicked beat. Now his is a really cool song because the repetitive beat is not only something that is ridiculously catchy, but it is simple and allows us to focus more on the rap itself. These verses are extremely clever and borderline funny. I love the way these Korean rappers reference so many pop culture phenomena. And I can appreciate how these Korean rappers seamlessly blend the Western influences and their native Korean influences.
Korean rappers generally do an amazing job of blending languages, but these guys blend cultures as well. The talent in this song is overwhelming, and when we add in the infectious beat, the song becomes something that we can't get enough of. This song is so perfect whenever you feel like a bad ass. The track is honestly just straight fire, and if this is your first exposure to Korean rap, I am so glad that this is the song you get to hear. I will be posting a lot more Korean rap and miscellaneous genres in the future, so pelase be on the look out!
Today's instrumental song is by an artist who is known for having sick beats and charismatic energy. Kanye West is one of the most famous and popular rappers of all time, and it doesn't come just from the words he spits out. While his verses and rhymes are some of the most interesting I have heard, they would not be as phenomenal without a beat. And Kanye's production work is borderline genius. Every song sounds different and has a different sound. Kanye's ability to be so completely dynamic and of his own is something that makes me respect him as an artist. This song is one of his most popular songs from years ago. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
