30 Seconds to Mars and Audiomachine
Today I have some new music for you by a band that I have loved for a long time. 30 Seconds to Mars is a band that I have spent a lot of time talking about in the past, and they are out with a new track and hopefully, another album to follow suit. But the band has spent a lot of time touring and performing, taking a bit of a break, the frontman acting in a few films, etc. But I have to say, it is exciting to have the band finally drop some new music, so let's get into it.
In standard 30 Seconds to Mars fashion, this song makes me feel like I am capable of doing anything. That tends to be a common theme across all of their albums. From the opening to the very end, this song surges with power and passion, ferocity and intensity. There is this fierceness to the music which feels like it is coursing through your veins, powering your mind, body, and soul. And that is one of the things I absolutely love about the band. The music is passionate and empowering, as are the music videos which accompany. Even in this video, though it is supposed to be a lyric video, the surrounding footage is just as inspiring and incredible. There are so many wonderful and charged themes woven throughout the song as well. Freedom, persistence, resistance, strength, fighting for what you believe in, and more. The song is charged with so much unrelenting feeling and belief in the ability to do something unimaginable. It is a song that makes us feel like we are indestructible, invincible, and that we really can walk on water.
So the question becomes, how? How is it that 30 Seconds to Mars makes us all feel like kings and queens? (get it?) Well what I find very interesting is how different this song is in comparison to some of the other work released by 30 Seconds to Mars. Normally, the band achieves the sense of power through monstrous waves of sound and meticulous composition. That doesn't really change with this song. We get booming moment and roaring vocals. We get a euphonious wave of sound and a chorus which feels like the whole country has come together to hum. But we don't get the wailing guitars or the smashing drums. We don't get the soaring vocals or the signature Jared Leto scream. We get something entirely different.
We are introduced to the song with a humming chorus. This is a very powerful start to the song because it causes the entire song to thrum with an excited and driven power. On top of that, we get some vocalization by another chorus group which takes over the higher pitched vocals. These vocals are repeated throughout the song, especially during the main hook and chorus. The steady stomp of drums and a riveting and screaming synth comes through to create a soundscape that's made for fighters and warriors, those who want to feel powerful and invincible. The sweeping chorus creates a powerful sensation of being part of something huge and great. Sometimes when I hear this song I imagine a large group of people being led to fight something, war paint streaked across their faces as they approach. And oddly enough, there are 30 Seconds to Mars music videos that re create that image. But with all of the instrumentation and musicality and lyrics combined, we get a song that makes us live up to the name of the song. We are treated to a song that makes us rise up and feel the waves of intensity and unbeatable energy wash over is. If you want to feel truly epic, this song will do it for you.
Today's instrumental song is by the producers known as Audiomachine. Now for those of you who have not heard of Audiomachine, these are the guys responsible for some of the most epic video game scores ever. And I mean seriously epic. These are the guys who fuel those video games with emotion and feeling. They fill these games with power and strength, perseverance and passion, intensity and makes them legendary. This score is no different, and is possibly one of the best I have heard. Audiomachine seems to have used a lot of live instrumentation sounds such as electric guitars, but perfectly weaves them into the electronic elements of production. This score makes us feel like we have the heart of a lion and the soul of a warrior. And that feeling is one that none can break. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
