The Knocks and Mat Zo

Today I have groovier music for you. These songs have a little bit more of a funky sound that you would think of regarding 80's music. This first song is a remix of a song by The 1975 by the incredible electronic artist, The Knocks. Not only is this originally a rather upbeat song by The 1975, but The Knocks really gives this a notch up. Now individually, The 1975 and The Knocks are very unique artists, bringing completely different sounds to their genre. But today, we are focusing on The Knocks, and in particular, how they made this song by The 1975 work with the electronic style The Knocks used in this song. Generally, The Knocks have a really wide spectrum of music that they cover, but this song is one of those more anomalous ones, the kind of song that isn't really part of their normal repertoire. But of course, they killed it! This remix is one that is so much fun to listen to. I really like this remix because it keeps with the original grooviness of the The 1975. The Knocks don't try and kind of cut out the main melody of the original song and they actually do a phenomenal job of making sure that enough of the song is present in this remix. This is a happier and more energetic and bubblier version of the original song, but it still has that 80's feel to it which I love.  Being able to keep the originality of the song and then throw a remix on top of that, well it isn't easy! Maintaining that original sound is something that The Knocks did an incredible job of doing, and I am impressed. I like how The Knocks actually sped up the song a little bit to give the song that French disco kind of 80's funk. This song is nothing short of catchy, I can tell you that much. And with this version, we get a song that has the same catchiness as the original, with some slap bass and fun synth pop melodies to make the song even more endearing. I seriously love this! Today's instrumental song is by Mat Zo. I know I have not posted a lot of music by him which is an absolute shame considering how incredible and talented this guy is. This song again is nice and funky. Mat Zo is a god at making those older 80's sounds feel fresh and different with the modern electronic work. I think Mat Zo is simply amazing at making this kind of music feel so smooth and sound like old house music. Mat Zo really channels Daft Punk in this song and does a fantastic job that I put this song on par with the music created by the Robots. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
