R3hab and Drake

Today I have a remix for you by an artist who absolutely killed it with this. R3hab is normally a more house oriented DJ, with explosive choruses and high energy songs. But his remix of Rihanna's song is one of the best remixes I have heard. I love the way he took this song and made it something completely different. From the tone of the song to stylistic elements, to even parts of the melody, there is an originality to this remix that I have not heard from any of the other remixes of this song. Plus, this version has an incredibly good sound, one that is pleasing to the ears and almost dangerously addictive. What I find very interesting is how R3hab still manages to make this song something that is seductive despite the fact that it kind of steps away from the R&B vibe of the original song. The original version of the song definitely has a seductive sound to it, but the remix that R3hab has done is a sensual version of the song. He has turned the song into a strange mix of being a slow jam, but also a sped-up version of the song. R3hab has carefully crafted this song to take the original song and vary the way the music wraps itself around the music. This gives the impression that the vocals are going on at different speeds. What really happens, is that R3hab takes certain parts of the song and puts it to a slowed down and chilled out synth line. However, the overall musicality of the song still gives us this weird mix of vibes which work so well together. The verses all carry that more sensual sound, leaning more towards being a tropical rendition of the song. But the chorus and main melody shows us the more R3hab side of things, favoring a house sound more than anything else. R3hab also does a great job of keeping that stylistic R&B percussion beat within the song, which just makes the song better. He is able to really capture Rihanna's style of music in his own electronic image, making it something that showcases both artists' talents. This twist on a song in terms of mood is actually quite large. The original song has this darkness that shrouds over the entire song. But we get something more shimmery and abstract from R3hab. It isn't dark nor happy, but it is definitely not bland either. There is a vivacious sound to this remix, one that makes it such an earworm! R3hab has done a phenomenal job with this remix, and I have to admit, I think this is one of his best pieces of work. While it isn't a very house oriented song, R3hab has still made his mark on the song, showing us what we know he can do and giving us a sound we have never heard from him before. Today's instrumental song is by Drake. This song strangely enough has a really great consistency with the first song in terms of musicality. Both have a tropical twist on something that is generally more R&B oriented. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
