Tame Impala and The Beatles
Today I have some music for you by a band that had slipped into the back of mind until very recently. Tame Impala is a band that was a huge hit in the 2000's, with a few hit songs that made it to a lot of major radio stations. But they did end up dropping out of the spotlight, and I honestly kind of forgot about them. However, they have been putting out music and recently released an album! A friend brought my attention back to them and I realized how much I missed their music. So this song is one of their newer ones and is similar to their old style of music, but also has an incredible Beatles influence to it. I wouldn't be surprised if people thought this was a song by The Beatles when first hearing the song. From the way the vocals are produced to the way the overall musicality is, there is a really nice classic rock kind of vibe to the song. This band has a reputation of being a psych-rock and kind of sleepy band, but there is a creative genius behind their music and especially their newest album. With this song we get the nice fuzz tone vocals and a bass line that has a mind of its own. There is a sense of structured chaos, to the point where we can't even tell that there really is a sense of chaos. The wandering bass line and ever changing drums are not normal, but work so well with Tame Impala's style. The chorus gets repeated over and over again, but the instrumentation slightly changes all the time. There isn't a formulaic pattern to the instrumentation of the song and that is something that is very unique to this song. This song has a very hypnotic feel to it, but encapsulates a lot of different influences to make it the way that it is. There are clear 60's and 70's influences on the song, but even a little bit of the modern. The way the synthesizers are used kind of brings us back to the current methodology behind popular music. There is a really nice laid back vibe to the song, and again, we get more of that psychedelic rock sound. This song is one that has a lot of that Beatles-esque sound to it, and while many bands have tried to recreate the sound of The Beatles, very have actually been able to do it. Thankfully, Tame Impala has! This song and album as a whole is a very humanizing one, and album that brings music back to the level of the individual. I really like that though. There is a universal nature to the album that allows everyone to really connect to at least one song. While this song seems like the kind of song that are more oriented towards hippies and that stereotype, this is also a song that has a lot of depth. These intricate thoughts and beliefs are so cleverly masked by floating melodies and carefree ambiance. Tame Impala is a great band though for that ability to create something so vivid yet completely abstract. Today's instrumental song is of course a song by The Beatles. Being the biggest boy band in history, many, if not all of their songs, are extremely popular and well known. However, the classic nature of their music makes it something that we don't mind hearing all the time. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
