Ariana Grande & Nathan Sykes and Water For Elephants

Today I have some music for you by an artist who has been on the top of the charts and all over the radio. Ariana Grande is most known for her energetic pop songs, songs that showcase her talent and ability to sing all the way up to the whistle register. However today's song is nothing like the songs she is most known for. What a lot of people don't really know is that she has a beautiful jazz voice as well. In my opinion, I think her swing and jazz oriented songs are the best, and this song is one of my favorites by her. This song is just vocals and a piano, something that is so simple, but extremely moving. This song also features the vocals of Nathan Sykes, one of the members of The Wanted. Together, these artists have composed and sung an incredibly beautiful pop ballad, something that is reminiscent of the romantic ballads that we got from the likes of Natalie Cole and Frank Sinatra. This is such a lovely song, one that puts the greatness of simplicity to show. Ariana Grande has a voice that is meant for this more traditional style of pop music, the kind that makes us think of that old kind of class. The strength of the song is carried by the voices of Ariana Grande and Nathan Sykes. One would think that this song would be energetic and fun, but this is a slower and more meaningful one. It has a wonderful maturity to it and has the feel of a classic kind of song. It is like their voices twist and mold around each other, supporting and adapting to the other. One would think that a song like this would sound sappy, especially from two young artists. But this song manages to stay completely away from that, becoming a ballad that is full of substance and is a beautiful blending of the modern and classic sounds we love. Now we all know that Ariana Grande has a set of pipes on  her. I mean the woman can really sing, and has had a lot more chances to belt out those notes. But with this song,we get something more vulnerable and soft, something that is stripped away of all facades and walls, and is purely hers. Nathan Sykes shows off his singing ability in this song as well, providing a gentle but strong accompaniment to Ariana Grande's unguarded and softer voice. But what both of these artist bring to the piano, is this sensitivity. They both sound as if they are singing from their hearts, and that is what really helps carry the song through. With just a piano, we get to hear every bit of emotion poured into the song. This is a track that has the power to warm you up when everything seems chilly and grey, but can also leave you with goosebumps from how heartbreaking it is. This is the kind of song that you sing in the shower when its gloomy outside, with the lights dimmed just perfectly. This is the kind of song you sing when its raining heavily outside, and you are curled up by the fire. This is one of those songs that is meant to warm your heart but leave you with that sensation of haunting beauty. This duet is one that is indescribable and enchantingly wonderful. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Water For Elephants. Now I sadly have not seen the film, but I loved the soundtrack. One of the greatest things about it, is that it captured the era in which the film takes place. Now what is interesting, is that this composition is actually not part of the movie itself. This was composed by a viewer, and I think it is so perfectly done. The use of the piano in conjunction with the soulful singing of the violins makes this a piece that is enchanting beyond belief. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
