Drake and Rihanna

Today I have some music for you by an artist that is definitely not an underground artist, but is one whose music has been in my head for the past day now. I cannot deny the brilliance and greatness of this song, even though I believe that this artist is sometimes overly hyped. Drake is an artist who is known the world over as an artist who is super amazing and incredible and one of the greats. While I will definitely acknowledge that the guy is talented, I wouldn't go so far as to say he is one of the best rappers we have ever heard. That being said, I do enjoy his music and like that he has been able to take different directions with his music in terms of musicality and stylistic elements. This song is an EP that has come out and has become very popular. This song is pretty much everywhere and I have yet to get tired of it. This song is very different from what we have heard from Drake in the past. This song first of all, is him straight singing. No rapping, no wicked or funny rhyming schemes of the sort. Just straight singing. And I am pretty impressed with that! It isn't everyday that we meet a rapper who can do his thing and also sing. Second, Drake is a guy who has openly been emotionally vulnerable in his music. He sings about love and loss, raps about his hardships in romance and how much it hurts to get your heartbroken. It isn't very common for rappers to do that, but Drake does and gives zero cares as to what people think about that. Mad props to him for that. Now this song is really cool musically because it is a Caribbean and African kind of feel, something a little more tropical and dance jam styled. I personally love the fact that Drake is so open to created a fusion of different cultural sounds to create something unique. That is a testament to his ability as an artist to embrace sounds that are different but still pertain to the artist's vibe. This song has a sultry, late-night beachy kind of sound which is normally not something we associate with Drakes mainstream work. Keyword being "mainstream." Believe it or not, Drake has done a lot of work with many underground artists, especially the Nigerian artist who is featured in this song. And let me tell you, Drake's underground work is absolutely amazing. Even more so than the songs that we hear just on the radio. To me, those are for hype and not substance. And that is why I definitely appreciate this sound for Drake's latest song drop. IT showcases a side of him that not many people hear. Let me know how you feel about this vibe! Are we a fan of him branching out  and evolving, or do we like his hype and rhyme dropping style better? Today's instrumental song is another popular song that has come out recently by Rihanna. I feel like this is enough to give you an idea of what song this is, but this song is a perfect compliment to Drake's song. Why? Because of how splendidly it fuses different world genres. Now I am not the biggest fan of this song for the sole reason of Rihanna's singing style. Which is why it is so great that this is instrumental! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
