Anberlin and The Dark Knight Rises
Today I have music for you today by one of my favorite bands of all time-Anberlin. It has been quite a while since I have posted a song by these guys, but now I feel is the time for me to start talking about them more.12 years later and 7 studio albums later, Anberlin still remains one of the greatest bands I have ever had the pleasure to encounter. Everything about this band is so smooth and perfect. The vocals, the instrumentation, the background, the name, the lyrics, the members. Everything fits together like puzzle pieces and they form the incredible image of a band that never ever stopped making music that the world can fall in love with. Anberlin is a band that means so much to me and will always have a special part in my soul and mind as one of the things that evolved and molded me into what I am today. But on to the music, this song is off their final album. This is the early side of Anberlin, moving back to the hard rock that we got from albums like Cities. This song takes on the darker and more energetic side of Anberlin. When you listen to the song, from the get go we get chords by the guitar. The notes have a darker tone to them, but it isn't a scary kind of dark. It is like a sense of being upset and needing to vent, while still holding onto love once felt. This tone goes along with the lost souls which Anberlin so beautifully addresses. This song uses a little bit of synth for the guitar work which is okay with me because Anberlin still relies heavily on the conventional instruments they have always used. Stephen Christian is one of the magicians of this magical band. I have heard many voices in recordings and live, of all different genres and from all over the world, and I stick by my thoughts that Stephen Christian is one of the best male vocalists. His voice is so distinct and unique and is capable of so much. He can pull off a hard and edgy voice for rock songs, or he can go mellow and soft and smooth for songs like this. He can do screams for intense rock songs and can be so vulnerable and emotional and heart breaking for other songs. Stephen Christian has one of the most versatile voices I have heard and he has a beautiful voice. There is a rich but sophisticated tone to his voice. And in this song, we get to hear his controlled but wild voice. It is powerful and strong and strangely emotional. This song is definitely a little bit more on the angsty side, but the thing is, Anberlin never sounds whiny or angsty. They have this mature sound that expresses the emotional complexities that exist. And while this is an older song, one of their earliest, you can already hear how they have this wonderful sense of what their sound is and what they want to sound like. There is confidence in the way they sound and the music they play. Anberlin really is one of the best bands I have heard. Today's instrumental song is from the movie The Dark Knight Rises. This song was kind of hard to find, and I won't lie to you, this is not exactly the kind of score I was looking for. However, I realized there are a lot of similarities between this song and the first one. This song contrasts light and dark, bright and dull, fast and slow points of music. This is a summary of the styles of Anberlin. While the song starts out slow and melancholy, it picks up and turns into something epic and great. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
