XYLO and Sunshine

Today I have music for you by the California duo known as XYLO. This is dark pop at its finest, a song that is slow and calculated. Every beat and chord has been purposefully chosen and placed. everything strategically put together so that we get something that is ethereal and dark and spectacularly somber. This is a track that is incredibly well rounded, and is a fantastic way to debut XYLO's sounds. Their production is way beyond that which we would expect from and indie band. The music and instrumentals serve as the perfect harmonies to the vocals, and the layering of these synth notes gives the song a lot more musical depth and complexity. And that combination between the music and the vocals, is what really capitalizes on this dark pop kind of sound. The vocals are haunting and strong, but they don't boom with power and robust vibration. The song drips in this dark melancholy, something that makes that gloomy indie sound burst forth. The whole song is just created in overcast, with the shadows and grey scale taking over the song. This XYLO also puts a lot of soul into this song, but not in the way we see that to normally be. This song has a lot of heart and passion even though it doesn't impose those feelings onto the initial listen. There is so much of the soul of the people in this song, the thoughts and lives of people in love singing in this song as well. This song just has those dark waves woven throughout, and it covers the entire thing like fog or mist. And I love how XYLO was not afraid to drop something so shadowy as their debut. That makes me think that they have some wonderful things in store, and I cannot wait to hear what they give us. Today's instrumental song is from the movie Sunshine. Now, as per recommendation by a friend, I watched it and I was left pretty much speechless. It is a bit of a confusing movie towards the end, but talk about a psychological thriller. Man, as soon as I started to like a character, something just has to happen to them. But the movie was really really good, and was a very interesting take on a thriller, especially since the whole movie takes place in space. That kind of movie doesn't come along often, and the movie itself was so well done. I do have to lend some credit of the most intense scenes to the music, because it really added that suspense and anticipation. The score for this movie may sound familiar, because believe it or not, this is quite popular. But it is still a great work of art, and goes with the movie quite well. John Murphy did an exquisite job with this score, and I absolutely commend him on the ability to make this a powerful but beautiful piece. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
