Ellie Goulding and The Last Samurai

Today I have some music for you by an artist that is quite full of surprises. Ellie Goulding is an extremely talented artist who has a large range of musical capabilities. But one of the things I love about her is that a lot of her music is low key and often not something that is heard commonly. She does have her normal pop songs, the ones that are played on the radio and heard in clubs. And then there are songs like this one. These are the songs that are so ethereal and transcendent, the kind of songs that have the ability to take you to another state of being. Ellie Goulding has a light and airy voice that soars above the music in a way that is spectacular. Ellie Goulding uses some intricate vocal work in this song to add some more depth and power to the overall sound. Of course you have her chorus and verse work, but we also get some glitchy vocals in the background. These shaky vocals in addition to her feathery, light vocals turn this song into lover's lament and I absolutely love that. There is enough electronic work in this song to turn it into something that could be good for the club and remixing, and also good to just listen to and chill. I listened to this song for the first time at night, enjoying the outdoor air and this song was just perfect. I love the how prevalent the harp is in this song. It adds that slightly Asian sound to the song, but it works so well with the falsetto that Ellie Goulding provides. This song is just so beautiful and the way it smoothly delves into heavier beats and somewhat of a drop is just perfect. This song is so electrifying in the greatest way possible. It doesn't shock you with a huge amount of energy, but it hits you with this shimmering wall of sound. This is a song that can make you feel it in your bones, the kind of song that will make you feel so in tuned with your own self and just the music in general. These are the songs by Ellie Goulding that take my breath away, and are generally my favorite ones. Today's instrumental song comes from the movie The Last Samurai. This movie was an incredibly well done film. The acting, the set, the storyline, and of course the music was absolutely stunning. This score has to be one of my all time favorites by Hans Zimmer. He really took a cultural approach to this song and beautifully and seamlessly melded the orchestral sounds of the West with the smoother sounds of the Far East. This score has an overall tone of complete peace and calm. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
