The Shaukeens and Skrillex

Today I have some sick music for you all. This song comes from the world of Bollywood, but has an extremely interesting dynamic to it. Generally, Bollywood music tends to stray away from a lot of remixing and heavy electronic work, but recently, that ideal has changed. We hear a lot more EDM and house woven throughout the Indian kind of sound. With this song, we get Bollywood and dubstep. This song may even be the first of its kind, but I do know for sure this is the first Bollywood-Dubstep to ever get popularized. This song comes from the movie The Shaukeens which many people have never heard about, even those who actively watch Bollywood movies. But this song seemed to really take off and become a huge hit. What I love about this song is that it is very versatile in the dance world. This is a song that can be used to work out to, it is a song that you can up with sick choreography, and it is a song that is perfect for the club. Now some people have their own opinions about this song, especially disputing the fact that this can be called dubstep. The thing is, this song is not meant to be solely a dubstep song. This is supposed to have an Indian flair and more vocalization than other dupstep songs because that is how Bollywood works. But in regards to the heavy electronic work, especially the bass, I would definitely classify this as having a dubstep edge to it.  If anything, people should be more focused on the fact that this called "trance" when it has no trance aspects whatsoever. But I digress. Anyway, in this song we are introduced to this recurring motif sound that is a synthesized kind of Indian melody that seems to move up and down in waves. The female vocals are introduced with a nice auto-tune cover which suits the song extremely well. And then we get hit with the bass and it is simply beautiful. What is cool is that the bass plays it cool and low key up until this main dance chorus. And then, all hell kind of breaks loose and the heavy work of dubstep is unleashed. Honestly this song is a great concoction of urban-meets-desi. As much as I love the normalized standard of Bollywood music, I am definitely intrigued and really enjoy this twist on the music. Now this second song is not an instrumental but it is one that exemplifies the dubstep part of the first song. Skrillex is an artist who is known all over the world for his dubstep work and overall electronic work. This song has quite a few similarities to the first song, so comparison is actually not too difficult. With both of these songs we get the heavy bass and the extremely dynamic synth melody. However, with Skrillex we get something that is more badass and hardcore. But with the Bollywood song we get something more sensual and sexy. Either way, both songs are really good and very energetic. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
