Josh Groban and Percy Faith Orchestra

Today is Christmas Eve. This is the night when everything about Christmas comes to a calm and tranquility. It is the night where everyone comes together to just be. Whether you go to church for service or remain at home, there is this peace and coziness and warmth that settles over you. This is the night that really reminds me of what Christmas means and the true spirit of the holidays. It is about community, family, and giving to all. For this night, I have music for you that reflects that beautiful calm and serenity. This first song is a rendition of the biggest Christian holiday song and is sung by Josh Groban. He lends his rich tone and warm voice to sing this song in its full beauty. Josh Groban sings this song with so much love and meaning and it seems to touch the heart and soul. Today's second song is an instrumental of another Christian song that is very popular during the holidays. This version was performed by the Percy Faith Orchestra. To me, there is something indescribably beautiful about the way an orchestra performs this song. The way the strings sound captures a feeling that you cannot put into words. That feeling makes me feel so warm and at home and thoughtful and content and peaceful all at the same time. Everything good that you could feel is what this song makes you feel, and it is so wonderful. The mix of the strings and brass make this song come to life and be so dynamic. Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
