The Wanted and King Arthur

Today I have music for you by the boy band The Wanted. A lot of their music is known for being very pop oriented and high impact energy. However, we do get songs like the one I am sharing with you today. This song still has some of those characteristics that define the musical style of The Wanted, but it also takes a backseat to more soothing and mellow sounds. To start, the song opes with this really nice orchestral intro with some stacatto string work. This serves as a huge part of the song because rather than using a lot of synth and keyboard, The Wanted focuses a lot on having that orchestral background and establishing this as part of the basis of the song before layering other things on. After having a lot of string work, they layered some synth work on top. But the synth work is more melodic and has a little bit more rhythm variation because the strings then turn into a kind of percussion. I think that is one of the best things about this song. The strings have an immense presence in this song and it almost adds an indie aspect to the song. Most pop songs don't have this kind of string work, but The Wanted pulls it off so well. The Wanted approached this with a maturity that normally is not associated with by bands. The Wanted does have that "danger" to them when compared to pretty much every other boy band, but they also are able to convey this vulnerability which I really love. This song spreads the voices of each member out really well. Each voice follows the other in an order that is appealing for us to hear. Their voices also have a very minimal amount of autotune to it which is always so greatly appreciated. The Wanted is one of those groups that can pull off different styles of pop music and I am very impressed with that ability. All in all, this song has a unique balance compared to other pop songs. The orchestral portion takes a step forward and the electronic nature takes a step back. The vocals also become more prevalent in this song because there is only one point in the song where it is just an instrumental section and that happens to be the intro. The balance is perfect and different and this song was very well produced and executed. Today's instrumental song is from the movie King Arthur. This score is very beautiful because it includes that Celtic element which would have been associated with music during that time period. This score is absolutely beautiful, with dark intricacies and twists. It would not have felt complete though without the slight vocalization. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
