Vance Joy and Dead Poet's Society
Today I have music for you by a singer who goes by Vance Joy. This song is really cute and has a great upbeat sound to it. This is really nice because indie music like this is starting to come to the forefront, but Vance Joy really stays true to his style. Another artist he could be compared to is Of Monsters and Men. However, Vance Joy has a different involvement in indie folk. This song has a great combination of genres in it. The ukulele brings this really nice folksy sound while also providing a slightly tropical and reggae sound. When the bongo drums enter, that is when we really get to hear that fusion of genres. This song uses a couple of different types of percussion in it. The conventional drum set provides the beat and the bongos have a harmonizing percussion line. You can also hear the beats provided by other drums like the snare drum. The way all of these beat providers stay together impeccably well and remain in sync when the song speeds up for a little but is phenomenal. There are a few string instruments in this song as well. Of course we open with the ukulele, but there is also a guitar that offers support to the main melodies of the song. Vance Joy has an absolutely beautiful voice as well. I think he has a very distinct voice that we don't hear on the mainstream radio stations. You really have to look hard to find voices like this, but thankfully they exist! His voice sounds really sweet especially when you pay attention to the lyrics. You can start to hear the slight desperation and urgency in his voice as the lyrics continue to move. This song has a really awesome upbeat sound to it. It is not necessarily positive but it isn't negative either. It is one of those songs that you listen to and if you are having a good day, this can keep up the good vibes. But if you are having a bad day, this song can be the thing that pulls you out of the melancholy. Songs like that are rare but magical because they can cater to all feelings. Being able to appeal to a large audience is one thing, but to appeal to all states of being is another animal. The way this song is composed, you could automatically recognize it on its own (of course) and in a mashup. This is one of those songs that can fit seamlessly with another but still stand on its own. Vance Joy is an artist that has really caught my attention. I am definitely going to keep an eye on music and maybe even see his first show of his US tour in Dallas. Either way, I can't wait to hear more from him! Today's instrumental song is from the movie Dead Poet's Society. This is possibly one of the greatest movies ever created. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen! This movie has so much to offer from magnificent acting to funny dialogue to meaningful life lessons. This is a movie I could watch multiple times over because each time you view it, there is something new to take away. This score is so incredible because it has a twist of the older Victorian style of music. It is a cool mix of baroque and classical. But the use of the bagpipes reminds me of the defiance and freedom in this movie. I really hope you guys go watch this if you haven't seen it. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
