Death From Above 1979 and 300

Today I have some music for you by a punk band that is slowly starting to gain traction, but I have a feeling that they may hit the ground running! Death From Above 1979 is a really cool band because it has a history that is unlike most bands today. They broke up for a period of time after being together for five years. Normally when bands break up though, they don't get back together. However, Death From Above 1979 id reform and has released a new album. Today's song is from that new album and it is a pretty sick song! Fun fact, this song was based on a train wreck that did happen before the age of cellphones and other devices like it. What made this the choice wreck was that no one died. Anyway, when it comes to the song, there are a couple of cool things that mesh together which usually wouldn't. For one, this song has a crazy metal undertone with very heavy guitar work going on. We get a lot from both the electric and bass guitars. The bass guitar is harder to hear under everything else, but if you listen closely you can hear it serving as the gritty and edgy harmony. It is a really simple chord combination, but it has that depth of sound and that full low pitch to help serve as a backbone for the other melodies. This song has this kind of chaotic sound to it, but it is controlled chaos which is awesome. When you listen to it, everything seems haphazardly placed but it also sounds like it was meant to be that way. Controlled chaos is a hard sound to master, but Death From Above 1979 really nailed it! So the other aspect of this song which seems to not usually fit with that metal style is the use of the electronic music world. This song uses keyboards and synths in a really awesome way. The chorus, if that is what you would call it, serves as the showcase for the synth and keyboard. The other instruments fade out at certain points and the keyboards and synths rise to the occasion. It is such a stark contrast that you can definitely hear it from the get go. This sound pulls us away from the world of hard rock and metal and brings us into the world of easy going indie pop rock. Strange? Yes. Sick as heck? Most definitely. The vocals in this song are really interesting because they pull off both styles of music. That takes some true talent and says a lot about the versatility the vocalists have. For me though, I think the vocals fall more on the punk rock side of things. But regardless, these vocals are pretty much perfect! This song in general is a strange and progressive style of rock music and I really like it! Today's instrumental song is from the movie 300. Both of these songs share the theme of hardcore rock and the heavy instrumentals that make this song darker and edgier. However, the calmer parts of each song are done very differently. This song is also just so phenomenally done and perfect for a movie like this. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
