The Knocks and DJ Pauly D

Today I have music for you by a lesser known electronic duo called The Knocks. I recently heard this song by them and completely fell in love. This song is such a great dance song and is one that you can just chill to. There are points in the song when the extra harmonies and melodies cease, and just a single repeating rhythm is heard. Not only is this sound great, but it serves as the backbone of the song. It is probably most prominently heard at 2:22. I think you will get what I mean as this sound being the backbone. It serves throughout the whole song and everything else layers on top. Which brings me to another great thing about this song! The Knocks very smoothly layer on the sounds one by one until it becomes the complete sound that they want us to hear. It is so cool because it gives and inside to the production of the song while also showing us the importance of every sound to its own. And of course the vocals make this song positively complete. Today's instrumental song is by DJ Pauly D. Now, while he has an interesting reputation due to Jersey Shore, his skills as an artist are not lacking. I think he is pretty alright and his style definitely falls into a genre that I really enjoy. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Today's song is a really cool one out of South Africa by the band Kongos. There are so many awesome things happening in this song. For example the first sounds you hear is this really sick accordion work, and yes, these guys made the accordion look even cooler than any other musician out there has. I love the way they use the accordion and the tone of it. And then you hit the chorus which has these really strong vocals and you get the feel from the multiple voices with these sweet guitar licks and such a loud presence with the electric guitar. This song just kicks some major ass! Today's song is by the Beastie Boys, and is one of my favorite songs by them. Ima Robot and Tame Impala

Today I have a song for you by the band known as Ima Robot. Many of you will recognize this song because it is used in the show Suits. Disclaimer, Suits is a wonderfully fantastic show and I highly recommend you go watch it. Anyway, this song has a really cool and suave feel to it. It has that artsy urban grunge to it which I really like. It is a different way of performing rock music and takes you back to the 90's style of music. This song has a really cool charm to it because a lot of the song falls on the support of the bass guitar over the drums. The bass guitar serves as a secondary percussion to the rest of the instrumentals. It is actually kind of awesome how simple the instruments are in this song because when you bring the together you hear a really sick song. The main instruments are of course the bass guitar, tambourine, drums, and keyboard. Nothing else makes an appearance and I like it that way. The music in this song is so structured but so laid back at the same time.

Zayn Malik and Interstellar

Today I wanted to give a shout out to an artist who is both very famous and very underground. Most people know him as Zayn Malik, that guy who was in One Direction but left the band. So a little background, Zayn Malik was one of the five members of the famous boy band, One Direction. His departure from the band was all over the news last year, and I wont' lie, I felt bad for him. Not because he left the band, but because of what that meant for him in the public eye. It marked him as a huge target for papparzi and press, and I just feel so bad for him because he had to live in that public eye for so long. Which is one of the reasons why he wanted to leave. To live his life more quietly. So that of course, is a consequence of his level of fame. But on the other hand, we have his more quiet and surprising side.
