ZHU & Skrillex and The Glitch Mob

Today I have music for you by an artist who was a king in the world of underground music until reaching the spotlight. I honestly don't know why, but a part of me really wanted to talk about artists who are popular enough to be in the main spotlight, but also underground enough to the point where a vast majority of their music remains out of the mainstream flow. Zhu is an artist who seemed to kind of pop out of nowhere, and has stirred a lot of thoughts within the EDM community for a few reasons. First and foremost is the anonymity. While we do know now who Zhu is, there is still this level of remaining a mystery that he maintains. He isn't signed to a big label and does not have a huge website that blasts his music and artist related goods. He releases songs when he feels like he is ready and usually through Soundcloud. His method of live shows is also pretty mysterious and low key. I mean it is literally just flyers that get handed out! He is one of those artists whose face i...

The Little Prince and Lady & The Tramp

Image
Today I have some music for you from a movie that was so incredibly well done. The Little Prince is a movie I recommend everyone to see. It doesn't matter how old you are, what you are doing in life, or where you are, this is a film that speaks to your inner child and your soul. While this movie is definitely  social commentary on the status of society, it is such a beautiful message and a magically done movie. The film has different styles of animation that are tastefully done and structured in a way so that the stories that are told really do come to life in their own unique way. And because The Little Prince is based off a French novel, the soundtrack features a few French inspired pieces. This particular song is one of those adorable French songs, with a wonderfully comforting and warm atmosphere. It is a bubbly and lively song, full of happiness and an overall sense of contentment. This is a song that reminds me of kites flying high and bubbles floating through the air. This s...

Two Feet and The Glitch Mob

Today I have some hard hitting music from the electronic world, a sound that I haven't really posted about in a long time. There was a phase in music recently which put trap at the forefront of what was popular in a lot of spheres. However, a lot of times it wasn't necessarily the kind of trap music that a lot of heavy EDM listeners were familiar with. Much of what the world knows about trap right now, is based on a pop music skewed view on the musical genre. But there is a ton of music, this song included, out there that is more related to the actual definition of trap. This song is by Two Feet, a group that most people have never heard and probably won't ever hear of in most music venues and spaces. Two Feet is a smaller and underground artist who does a lot of work in the more chilled out sphere of trap. This song is a really smooth sailing song. There aren't any heavy hitting, earth shattering drops, and there aren't any weird robotic sounds programmed into the ...

Shawn Mendes and John Mayer

Image
Today I have music for you by an artist that is one of the newer pop sensations to come about. Shawn Mendes has been one of those heartthrob artists, with the sweet words and fun beats to get everyone listening. But this song is so uncharacteristic for him, and I absolutely love it. The first thing I thought when I heard this song, was how John Mayer-esque this song is. This is a song that is based musically in the percussion and smooth electric guitar work. There is a simplicity to this song that makes it work so beautifully with the fact that Shawn Mendes is really bringing in the blues. The title of the song is enough to let us know that this is going to be something that is going to be more on the melancholy side of things, but the way he paired it with blues guitar work is excellent. Normally pop artists like to go with a more synth pop kind of sound when it comes to their more emotional songs. But Shawn Mendes takes it somewhere completely different. He takes it over to the world...

Dr. Srimix and Jay-Z

Today I have some cool music for you. I haven't posted music like this before so I think it will be a really cool change of pace! We all know that mashups are all over places like Soundcloud and YouTube, and a lot of these mashups are often two English songs coming together. But, when you delve deeper into the world of mashups, you get some really cool mixes of music from all over the world. A combination of English and Spanish, Spanish and Hindi, French and English, etc. There are so many kinds of mashups out there and it dawned on me that it would be so perfect for me to share some of them! So today I am trying it out, seeing if I can find a style of mashup that people really like. Now for me personally, Hindi mashups of any kind are some of the sickest. Of course I am a little biased, but I genuinely think that there is so much versatility in Indian music, that it makes it a great choice for mashups. You can have super intense sounding mashups, sweet and cute ones, or ones that ...

Ansolo and Nicky Romero

Image
Today I have music for you by Ansolo, also known more famously as Ansel Elgort. That's right boys and girls, Ansel Elgort has entered the world of DJ-ing and electronic music. And he is good. Very good. In fact, Ansel Elgort is so good, that he was invited to play at Electric Zoo Festival in New York. That requires some major talent and I can see why he was chosen for it. Ansolo has some talent! This song is just a remix he has done, and it is one of the most epic things I have ever heard! There is a brilliant use of fading in and out and there is this wicked weaving of the lyrics into the music. This song takes a lot of the original song, but Ansolo twists it so much so that we really only get the main chorus melody. Everything is so uniquely Ansolo and this is a great track to allow you to brace yourself for the wicked world of Ansolo. Most of his work right now is remixing songs, but he has some sick live sets as well. But Ansolo likes to focus on the heavier, more intense side ...

Disclosure & Lorde and AlunaGeorge

Image
Today I have some music by one of the coolest DJ duos out there. Disclosure has such a distinct and interesting style, that I would be able to recognize their music pretty easily. This song is off their latest album, and this is one of my favorites by them. This song features the vocals of Lorde, but she does an absolutely amazing job on the song! This song is definitely a seductive one, but in that interesting way that electronic music can be. There is a really dangerous kind of seduction to the song, and I really enjoy that. This is the kind of song you can listen to while chilling out or even get into the groove of the song and dance. No matter what you are doing though, the song still has that bewitching kind of sound to it. What is pretty cool about Disclosure, is that they never really aim to be club artists. Yes, their music is influenced by club beats, but the overall sound is very structured to be something more along the lines of pop music. This song features throbbing synths...
