Disclosure & Lorde and AlunaGeorge
Today I have some music by one of the coolest DJ duos out there. Disclosure has such a distinct and interesting style, that I would be able to recognize their music pretty easily. This song is off their latest album, and this is one of my favorites by them. This song features the vocals of Lorde, but she does an absolutely amazing job on the song! This song is definitely a seductive one, but in that interesting way that electronic music can be. There is a really dangerous kind of seduction to the song, and I really enjoy that. This is the kind of song you can listen to while chilling out or even get into the groove of the song and dance. No matter what you are doing though, the song still has that bewitching kind of sound to it. What is pretty cool about Disclosure, is that they never really aim to be club artists. Yes, their music is influenced by club beats, but the overall sound is very structured to be something more along the lines of pop music. This song features throbbing synths and syncopated percussion loops. It is actually so incredibly impressive to hear how much this song relies on the percussion rather than the synth. The synth that is there has a heavier sound instead of being a soft blanket to cover. Other than the synth lines, the song is made up of multiple percussion lines. This is something we don't really hear much, and definitely not from a group like Disclosure. The percussion is what really gives the song that thrumming hum and seductive vibe. Don't get me wrong, the synth work is pretty necessary, but there is so much percussion that is used in this song and I love it! I think this is the least club influenced song from the album, but there is still a really good dancing element to the song because of the different percussion beats and styles used. There is a sassy and flirtatious nature to the song thanks to Lorde. Her voice sounds just as good live as it does in the recording. And set against the darker, hip hop sounding beat? Well, Lorde sounds at home! This song is truly a collaboration. We get a taste of both Disclosure's and Lorde's style of music, being a part of the creative processes the other artists have. I love that Lorde not only sang the song, but was involved in the lyric writing, melodies, and sound production. This is one of the best songs of 2015 in my opinion, and one of the best songs from Disclosure's sophomore album. Today's instrumental song is by another amazing artist who has come out from the underground and made it to the spotlight. AlunaGeorge has been on the radio for a few of their singles, but its the songs that haven't really made it on the air that blow you away. This is one of those songs! A dancefloor track, this is a song that is a strange mix of chill and fun at the same time. I really do enjoy AlunaGeorge's work, especially since they have a great history of collaboration. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
