Röyksopp & Robyn and Transformers Age of Extinction

Image
Today I have the newest song by Robyn a nd  Röyksopp   for you. Robyn has a really cool style to her persona and music. This song in particular goes back to the older style of electr onic music with vocals. It even has a slight disco feel to it, which is something that Robyn can do so well. They went back to the beginning and worked from scratch to make this. From the beginnings of electronic music, this is what they have pulled from that age and combined with the new era of electronic music. I think this style of music suits Robyn so well and she is able to pull it off so well, especially with the type of vocals she has. This song has an upbeat and dance feel to it, but the lyrics scream sadness, loneliness, and desperation of many kinds and that creates an innate pull to the song. I got so hooked on the background music of this song. During the chorus there is a change from major to minor and that really pulls out the darker feelings. This style is similar to that of early e...

Wisin Y Yandel, Chris Brown, & T Pain and Don Omar

Image
Today I have music for you by one of my favorite Latin artists/duos, Wisin y Yandel. This song is probably my favorite one by them for a multitude of reasons. First, this song has a sick beat and an awesome melody. It retains that traditional Latin sound with the pipes but also integrates the more modern electronic and bass sound to it. There is this perfect marriage between Western R&B and Latin beats which gives the song so much body and dynamism. T-Pain was a great addition to the song because of his extensive experience in the industry, producing and performing. Second, this song is a phenomenal dance song. Seriously. This song comes on and no one can stay still. If you are like me, you dance quietly in your room and if anyone ever walked in they would immediately leave or laugh because I go hard. But even in public, I have to sway a little or head bang, and of course I mouth the lyrics all the time. Which brings me to the next point. This song brilliantly fuses English R&B...

Tinie Tempah and TrapZillas

Image
Today I have some music for you by one of my favorite rappers ever, Tinie Tempah. This song is such a boss song with so many things going on that makes it pretty damn sick. First, the song starts off with a hook that is absolutely contagious and is one that will not leave you standing still. From the get go I was on my feet dancing away to the beat. And then that initial beat segues into a heavy trap feel that really gets you dancing. There is something about this beat that induces extreme movement and causes you to want to get on the floor and show the world what you've got. The lyrics to this song are pretty crazy and I think it's kind of awesome how he references so many different artists from all genres in this song. I also like the fact that his English accent pops out sometimes and it somehow adds more of a bad ass feel to this song. Now  normally, I am not a huge fan of 2 Chainz, but his featured part is not bad. This time, he sounds like a legitimate rapper instead of a...

SNBRN and Calvin Harris

Image
Today I want to start by saying sorry! I missed yesterday's post. It has been quite a rough week for me, so I ended up taking majority of the night and early morning for studying and working. But today I am back with some great music for you! And speaking of said music, let's get started! So this song is by the DJ known as SNBRN, a DJ that most of you have probably not heard of. Which is definitely okay! SNBRN is the kind of DJ who relishes in the underground scene. I mean everything from his sound to his style to the people who provide vocals for him. He has that rare package which allows him to be one of the top dogs in the underground scene. Sounds a little weird to think of the underground music scene with an alpha-ish kind of artist, but its whatever! SNBRN has a very unique style and sound, one that I vividly imagine being used on the catwalk. His songs have that funk to them, which provide this wicked kind of energy. But at the same time, there is not this sense of ever ...

The Neighbourhood and Pan's Labyrinth

Image
Today I have a new song for you by The Neighbourhood. This song comes off the new Spider Man 2 soundtrack and I absolutely love it! This is very in sync with the typical dark style of The Neighbourhood. What I love about this band is that nothing is purely black and white, but their sound falls on the grayscale. When I hear this song, all I see are dark swirling greys. I love the chorus, the dark beauty that comes with a simpler instrumental use but more complex melody work. I haven't seen the movie so I don't know how it fits, but it seems to be perfect for a movie about a troubled and conflicted hero. Today's instrumental song is from Pan's Labyrinth, from which I have heard, is a weirdly creepy but fantastic movie. I can't deny the brilliance of the score though! I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!

Robert DeLong and Kingsman: The Secret Service

Image
Today I have some music that takes us back to the world of alternative rock. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to post some music from that side of the musical spectrum. I think I post in genre waves, periods of time when I focus on a specific sound before switching to something different. But anyway, this song is by an artist whom I have mad respect for. Robert DeLong is one of the most talented artists in the business. Not only is he a singer, but he is also and instrumentalist and producer. And did I mention, he is also a one man show? That is right. Every sound, every lyrics, every shake of the tambourine, it is all him. Robert DeLong writes, composes, performs, and produces all of his music. I have to say, I have yet to hear an artist who goes through the same lengths to put their music out there. Nowadays I suppose it is easier to physically create music which is why I am more impressed with Robert DeLong's capabilities. One thing that I was completely  blown away by...

Diplo & Nicky Da B and Gent & Jawns

Image
Today I have some music for you by Diplo and features the wonderful rapping of Nicky Da B. I found about this song through its use in 22 Jump Street. This song has that really awesome Diplo sound, the one that is his signature feel. The thing about Diplo is that yes he is an electronic musician, but his style is completely different from the majority of well known DJ's in the industry. He has this really dirty spin to his music and it is wicked cool. I won't lie, Diplo is one of those artists that I can listen to when I'm doing something that requires energy, but his music is sometimes too much to listen to all the time. But this song has this really nice beat to it that never drops in energy nor speed. The rapper in this song raps with that same level of energy even though half of what he says is unintelligible. Maybe that is what makes him sound really good in this song. There is a level of energy to which he could be saying nonsense and it would still sound sick. Don...
