Cat Powers & Coldplay and 30 Seconds To Mars

Image
Today I have music for you from the movie Wish I Was Here. I actually just watched this movie and can tell you that it is quite a good movie. That is one of the things I love about indie films-they have so much value and substance and present it to you in a way that is unlike anything you could see. Yet, these movies touch the heart and soul in a way that no other film could. These movies make you think and reflect and really feel. This movie was phenomenal and I loved the theme of the film. The soundtrack for this movie is also amazing. There is something special about music used in indie films because they are made especially to capture a certain emotion or feeling or moment. For me, this song captures the moment of complete surrender to the world around you. This song is something that is pensive but freeing at the same time. Cat Powers and Coldplay came together to make this song and it is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard from any movie. I have to say that all the credi...

Gorillaz and Daft Punk

Image
Today I have music for you by the Gorillaz. This song is a lesser known song by them and this band in general is just a lesser known band here in America. It is kind of funny because if I ever see a person wearing a Gorillaz shirt I go up to them and tell them that I love Gorillaz too because it is kind of rare to see fans! There are so many things to love about this band. Gorillaz has this great quirkiness to them that a lot of people would find weird and maybe to the extreme as downright abnormal. But I love that quirkiness because you will never see a band that looks and sounds like these guys. Gorillaz is so uniquely their own that if anyone even wanted to try and copy them, it would be pretty much impossible. Gorillaz has a style unlike any other because a lot of times there is no method to their madness! Every album explores the weirdest pockets of rock and rap and psychedelic music. You cannot put these guys into a single genre because they span so many. This song in particular ...

Alicia Keys & Drake and Kick Ass

Image
Today I have music for you by some really great artists. This first song is a collaboration done by Alicia Keys and Drake. I only recently heard this song, but I was completely blown away by it. The first time I heard the song, I had to stop and drink in the song and was left pretty much awestruck. Everything about this song is so beautiful and well put together. The two sound really great together because Alicia Keys is able to bring a softer, gentler sound to the song and Drake provides a calming rap verse and soothing harmonizing background vocals. This is one of my favorite collaborations I have heard. This song is so smooth and dark and sensual. This is one of those songs that makes you feel so many different things at once. The way the music works in this song, I can't help but feel so calm but there is an air of intensity. That adds to this very sensual and lustful sound, and even if you take the lyrics out, you still get that tender but almost steamy sound. I think that act...

The Rembrandts and Justin Timberlake

Image
Today I have music for you by a band that will forever be known for this iconic song. The Rembrandts are known for their work on the Friends soundtrack. They are actually the ones who are in charge of performing and writing the theme song. I mean honestly, this theme song is one of the most well known soundtracks of all time. This song has been heard and played all over the place, especially during the height of Friends being aired. This song is so energetic and fun and has a great message at the same time. This song has everything to suit a television show like Friends. This song is all about the wonderful nature of having friends who are like parts of your own identity. The Rembrandts did a really good job with the way the instrumental portions sound. There is this light bounciness to the way the song sounds, but it is not too happy go lucky and carefree. It has this warmth and home/cozy feeling to it. Let's be honest, this is one of the greatest themes songs ever! Today's in...

Mr Probz & Robin Schulz and Milky Chance

Image
Today I have music for you by Mr Probz. The original version of this song is slower and more acoustic, but honestly I prefer the remixed version. Robin Schulz did an incredible job with this remix. It is uptempo and upbeat but still has this chill sound to it. This song just has that super laid back electronic feel to it and I really like that. This is a really good and somewhat bubbly song. It is not exactly happy, but it does have a nice energy to it. Mr Probz has a really sexy and gritty voice. Normally, grit sounds really weird or bad with R&B, but in this case Mr Probz really works it and makes the vocals sound incredible. The work between Mr Probz and Robin Schulz on this song is awesome because they independently were able to mash together and create this song. A lot of times, remixes don't get as popular as the original, but I honestly think that this remixed version is more popular than the original. I guess it all kind of depends on the mood you are in. The one thing ...

tyDi and Benny Benassi

Image
Today's song is by an Australian DJ called tyDi. He started out as a drummer, but then switched to being a DJ so his songs has pretty great drum beats as well. This song has good energy and great vocals! This song is more subdued than usual dance music but it still has a bumping beat. This song is kind of cool because it addresses a huge problem in youth society today. Bullying seems to encompass a lot of adolescent life and this song is kind of an anti bullying message. But the way that tyDi goes about it is really cool. This song definitely has this really nice chill undertone to it. It sounds like something that would belong to an underground club or music scene. There are some darker undertones to it, and even a little bit of psychedelic undertones. This music video fits the undertones of the song not only because of the content, but also the video production. The black and white and grey scale really helps to emphasize the ideas behind the music. tyDi has a way with the elect...

Louis Armstrong and Charlie Brown

Image
Today's song is a classic, in honor of Thanksgiving Day. Louis Armstrong is an incredible singer and icon. This song is a reminder to be thankful for what we have received, have now, and will have in the future. The instrumental song is a Charlie Brown classic! Charlie Brown is an animated show/shorts that have been with the American people and has become and integral part of American society for decades. Enjoy and have a great Thanksgiving!
