Gorillaz and Daft Punk
Today I have music for you by the Gorillaz. This song is a lesser known song by them and this band in general is just a lesser known band here in America. It is kind of funny because if I ever see a person wearing a Gorillaz shirt I go up to them and tell them that I love Gorillaz too because it is kind of rare to see fans! There are so many things to love about this band. Gorillaz has this great quirkiness to them that a lot of people would find weird and maybe to the extreme as downright abnormal. But I love that quirkiness because you will never see a band that looks and sounds like these guys. Gorillaz is so uniquely their own that if anyone even wanted to try and copy them, it would be pretty much impossible. Gorillaz has a style unlike any other because a lot of times there is no method to their madness! Every album explores the weirdest pockets of rock and rap and psychedelic music. You cannot put these guys into a single genre because they span so many. This song in particular takes us to a more ambient side of Gorillaz. The idiosyncratic nature of Gorillaz is still really heavy in this song, but the style of this song is a little bit calmer than what Gorillaz usually throws at us. This song is so carefree and relaxing and warm. This song has this coziness to it, like a warm shoulder to rest your head on. This song really plays on the idea of connection and solace, two emotions that are so underrated yet are some of the strongest emotions out there. This song is not telling us to hide from the world and from everything that is going on, but to rather, just live in the moment and not mind what we are going through. This song just makes everything about you wind down-your body and mind. It makes you want to give into the mesmerizing scene of a beach. Gorillaz knows how to masterfully create some brilliant pop music. The use of laid back synths, smooth and gentle and pretty strings, lazy electronic melodies, and spongy drum work makes this song what it is. It makes you feel that relaxed nature, along with the help of the muffled, sleepy, but dreamy vocals. This song is one of their more low key songs but I love it so much. Today's instrumental song is from Daft Punk's early days. This song is off possibly my favorite album by Daft Punk. This song has that kind of laid back and ambient sound that the first song has. Daft Punk is actually not too different from a lot of the work that Gorillaz does. It is so cool to see how similar and completely different the two groups are. This song is definitely more dream provoking and more pensive. But I still like the fact that it makes me think of the beach at sunset with the tide coming in. Music like these two songs can be hard to find, but I am glad that I have found at least these two. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
