Maître Gims & Alvaro Soler and Kygo

Today I have a song that blends two different worlds of music. And what school is that because today's artists come from two very different countries they bring very different aspects and qualities to this song. We've got one from France and one from Spain and while both of them may be on the pop side of music each country has a different version of pop. So let's get into it!

This song is originally by an artist from France who goes by the name Maître Gims. This is actually the first song that I've heard by him and if this is just a taste of what the rest of his music is like I'm very excited to have the chance to explore his musical dossier. This song is the Franco Spanish version of the French original. Now given that the title translates to "the same" I think it's beautiful that this song has a version that combines two different languages, two different artists, and two different worlds of music. The artist who sings the Spanish verses is none other than one of my favourites, Alvaro Soler. When these two artists are brought together, the world of hip-hop meshes with the world of Spanish pop. The combination of hip-hop and rap and pop music is nothing new for the books, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that these two genres blend smoothly in this song. I think the most amazing part is when the two languages are brought together. This might seem a little odd considering there were a lot of times in the past when I have talked about songs which incorporate other languages and English. But English has become so prevalent in the music world that it just doesn't have the same kind of cultural effect that combining two languages like French and Spanish does. And my goodness, these two languages flow so perfectly with one another!

As I mentioned earlier I haven't spent a lot of time listening to Maître Gims. However, I have spent plenty of time listening to Alvaro Soler. And there are so many parts about this song that show his musical influence on the track. For starters, the entire song is full of this bubbling energy. There are positive vibes that fill the track with happiness and goodness, something we tend to find in pretty much all of all Alvaro Soler's songs. Lyrically, this song is all about breaking free from the moulds of conformity. It is all about finding the courage to be yourself and to go do what you want, to be who you are, and to live life the way that you want to. It is such an important message to have, and Maître Gims gives us a taste of that message from the beginning. He starts off by explaining a little bit about his life and allowing us to see how he has viewed the world and how the world has viewed him. He then dives into the chorus along with Alvaro Soler, and declares to the world that he is the way he is and nothing is going to change that. Later, they ask the question, "When will the mask fall?" And this particular line is one of my absolute favorites. Wearing a mask is something we all know about to shield oneself from the world is something we all know about, and for some of us, is something we have experienced. That depth is moving, and I absolutely love the message in the upbeat melody!

And speaking of the melody, this song has a very fun and almost tropical kind of sound. The song also employs afrobeat which gives it an upbeat but not intense soundscape. A lot of French pop songs nowadays also employ a lot of electronic elements and we can hear that in this song. It doesn't have the same kind of electronic focus as EDM, but it still makes use of synthesizers and keyboards. The percussive elements are a little bit different. The drums sound like they might be performed live, and they also do not sound like standard band drums. The percussion in this song takes on a more ethnic and tropical aspect. From the Spanish side of music comes through in the way the melodies and harmonies of the chorus are all layered. We hear that kind of sound in a lot of Spanish and Latin music.

All in all, this song is bursting with a wonderful energy and sound. It is a fun and meaningful one, and I am very excited to check out the rest of Maître Gims's music.

Today's instrumental song is by Kygo, the king of tropical music. This song is another feel-good one, something that's nice to sit back and relax with. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
