Bazzi and Majid Jordan
Today, I want to talk about an artist who has really captured my ears and attention. Bazzi has spent a lot of time under the radar, writing and performing his tracks with a magnificent and seductive gentleness. From the first few moments of listening to Bazzi, I knew I was absolutely in love with his voice, and just had to talk about him here.
So Bazzi is a singer-songwriter out of Michigan, and is one of the most exciting new talents that I have come across. He is on the younger end of the talent pool, but you can already start to hear his versatility and potential. I have been impressed by all of Bazzi's work so far. He brings a seductive charisma to his music, making the tracks have different kinds of intimacy. I actually found this to be a very interesting concept. Personally, I feel like there is a sense of intimacy present in all of Bazzi's tracks. But the kinds of intimacy, and way he portrays that intimacy, vary from song to song. For some tracks, we get a more romantic intimacy and for other tracks, we get an intimacy which is associated with heart break and being alone. But in all of these tracks, we get this incredible sensuality and seduction which makes each song such a mood setter. In all of his songs, we are introduced to a smooth and arousing performance by Bazzi.
Bazzi has a wonderfully beautiful voice which has a range which likes to reach into the upper registers. He does a splendid job of exploring different vocal techniques with this track, and gives us more than a taste of what he is capable of. There is a tenderness and gentleness to Bazzi's voice which I find charmingly unique. He has a silky smooth voice, while still maintaining a sultry depth. The way he really drags the words through to the last note, elongating them to make each word flow into the other, is simply fantastic. The style and grace with which Bazzi sings is impressive for not just an artist, but especially so for an artist his age. Bazzi brings his own style and style to the music, molding and fashioning the synths and beats around his free form voice. Taking inspiration from the modern synth pop influenced R&B, Bazzi incorporates synths and keyboards and drum pads to produce the sexy and chill soundscape.
I am absolutely in love with the bridge of this song. The lyrics are cleverly written and segue into the chorus perfectly. Bazzi's approach to the lyrics of this track are also interesting to me because it isn't something we always get to hear about in music. There are songs out there which pose the question of why someone loves another. But Bazzi's question is, what makes this relationship more than just a crush? And there is something about that which struck me as different but refreshing.
One the coolest things about Bazzi's music is that there are very subtle hints of Lebanese and Middle Eastern melodies woven through his music. I think that is such a beautiful and special characteristic for music to have. Many ethnic artists in the West tend to perform more Western styled tracks, relying on that melodic system and popularity to craft music. But I absolutely adore and respect it when artists draw from their ethnic backgrounds to create music which is so culturally universal. And Bazzi is able to draw upon his ethnic and domestic roots to create a song which blends the two worlds together. The melodic scales which are commonly found in Middle Eastern music, can be heard ever so softly in this track. And while it would seem a bit odd and out of place on its own, the way Bazzi is able to incorporate the unconventional melodies is seamless.
Today's instrumental music is from another R&B oriented artist. Majid Jordan is a duo which I have been obsessed with since the first listen. There is such a mood and atmosphere created by these two, a steamy ambiance which is lounge worthy and chilled out. Majid Jordan has done a lot of work with some hip hop artists, and are responsible for those smooth and sexy synth sounds. There is a simplicity to the music, but a wonderful complexity about how Majid Jordan weaves all these sounds and rhythms together. This is an artist duo which I have gushed about in the past, and will continue to do so. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
