The Afters and Instrumental Core
Today I have some music by a band called The Afters. Now it has been an extremely long time since I have posted a song by this band. And it is actually a shame that it has taken this long for me to put up another incredible song by The Afters. The song I am posting today was actually used to open and present The Golden Globes on television. Now, this is really cool in my opinion, especially given the fact that they are not one of the more well-known bands in the popular music sphere. Of course, I found it to b a bit ironic that most people have no idea who The Afters are, yet their music was used for one of the biggest televised events of the year.
But to continue onto the song itself, this particular track comes from the fifth album by The Afters. One of the most notable things about The Afters, something which makes them so great, is their ability to create music that inspires. So many of their songs are so inviting and incredibly inspirational, hopeful on all accounts and food for the soul. From the lyrics to the musical composition, I always feel like I can soar after listening to their music. This track feels like an anthem for humanity. Its a celebration of humanity and the freedom of the human spirit. The wild and untamed nature of the human spirit. It pays homage to the beauty of the human experience. It has been so long since we have heard music which celebrates life just the way it is. But this track does that, and The Afters so generously allow us to revel in being alive, even just for a single song.
This song is very well performed, by both lead singer and other instrument-wielding band members. The vocals are simply splendid, a declaration to enjoy the music and the moment. I will admit, I don't think that the vocals in this song are necessarily unique in the way they sound. To be fair, it is a wonderfully soft and even vulnerable voice, perfect for the soft rock and pop orientation of the song. But what makes this voice so special, is how it makes us feel like we can connet. The vocals in this song feel like a hand reaching out for mine. It feels warm and inviting. And set against the backdrop of an instrumental soundscape, the combination is perfect. We get the full effect of the incredible instrumentation and layered harmonies, as they weave in and out of each other. We get a smattering of acoustic guitars and the rhythmic heartbeat of the drums. We even get a bit of keyboard work in and piano to create a rounded out sound. As the song drops into the final bridge, we get a chorus to join in singing. And this is what really makes us feel like a part of the song. The multiple voices of so many people just like is. Just singing together, enjoying together, and enjoying the moments like this.
This is not only a full band musical experience, but an expression of what it is to be human. From the lyrics, we get a message that is so applicable to every one of us. We all live for the great moments in life no matter how big or small those moments may be. This song is so powerful and even moving due to the utter inspiration to cherish sweet moments. The Afters are technically considered a Christian band, and I wouldn't disagree. But the thing about The Afters is that they write songs you can relate to regardless of religion or lack thereof. Their songs don't call out to a certain God but calls out to humanity and the best that we can be. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to see them perform live and while in the audience I could tell that they meant every word that was being sung. There are so much passion and love, so much feeling and gratitude strewn throughout their music. Even in this recording, you can feel the warmth and joy and devotion to life itself and belief in living the best life we can. They celebrate the human experience, the greatest experience.
Today's instrumental song is by Instrumental Core and has been used in the video gaming world. Despite what many people think, video games have incredible scores to go along with the actual game. Honestly, I think it is the music that gives half the excitement to the game. But this one has this deep thrum and power that resonates throughout the song. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
