Tom Misch and Phoenix
Today I have some music for you out of South London by an incredible producer by the name Tom Misch. This is an artist who creates masterpieces of sound by blending hip-hop beats with dance and electronic music. Now to me, it seems like this style of music is becoming more popular, or at least more prevalent. But what I do enjoy, is that each artist has a distinct way of making that chilled-out hip-hop track. And Tom Misch makes some really good textured beats while also providing his own vocals.
Stylistically, there are always so many ways artists can go when it comes to chill-hop or electronic hip-hop. In this track, we get a more upbeat and friendly sound. It is a bubblier track, with only feel good vibes flowing through. Tom Misch does an incredible job of capturing this carefree atmosphere through his production and composition. I think one of the reasons the song flows this well, is because there is a dynamic array of instruments. Not only do we get the synths and electronic based beats, but we also get a plethora of live recorded instruments. Electric guitars offer a nice rhythmic melody while the bass guitar is a steady thumping beat for the background. We get some live drum work as well on the track, a subtler addition, but just as potent. I have to admit, the guitar work is what really sends me into this nice groovy zone. The melody for the electric guitar is absolutely golden. There is a cool groove and funk to the way the chords and rhythmic picking are done, adding so much flavor to the track. It adds this rock element to an otherwise hip-hop and electronically dominated track.
And speaking of flavor, we get some oddly lush vocals from Tom Misch as well. He has a warm voice despite the fact that it is a bit softer and feathery in this track. There is a comforting nature to his voice, a deep warmth that is quite inviting. His voice is a calm and smooth presence which is a perfect fit for the rest of the song. The vocal melody is also simpler, which allows us to really immerse in the instrumental background. We can sink into the feel-good vibes the song offers.
The warm flow of the track makes it such a great song to bop to as you walk down the street or chill out. Tom Misch has put out quite a bit of music, and most of it has this fun groove and cool funk. He is an artist worth checking out, for sure!

Phoenix has been a band that knows how to create songs that make people feel incredible. There is a genuine happiness and lightheartedness to many of their tracks. As if there isn't a care in the world, Phoenix makes us feel that same sensation. This is one of their most popular tracks, and for good reason.
