Always Never and Imagine Dragons
Today I have some music for you by an artist called Always Never. This is a super nice and chilled out song, something that I have been able to listen for days. It has a seductive smoothness to it, one that can catch you by surprise with its subtly lustful sound. I have to admit, I really like how Always Never has made the song to be so effortlessly smooth and even a but sexy.
One of the things to note about this track is how it seems to fall into this newer and growing style of R&B. This emerging style relies a bit more on synths and electronic work to create an ambient sound, while the vocals hang onto a more soulful and R&B sound. Part of what makes this song really work, and one of the things I really like about this song, is that there is a darker undertone to some parts of the song. But this darker undertone is not menacing, melancholy, nor eerie It is an irresistible allure, the tantalizing call of an interaction filled with lust and seduction.
Now I have to be honest with you, there isn't much that I know about Always Never. This is a very underground duo, and there isn't much to read or find out about them. In a way, that is actually even more intriguing, making me want to keep trying to figure out who they are. On the other hand, I actually kind of like the fact that their identity is more mysterious. It adds something to the music, making the music itself something more enigmatic.
This song has that same sense of abstractness to it. That ambiguity and ebb and flow makes the vocals stand out even more. But Always Never has also done something great with the production by blurring the lines between instrumentality and vocals, blending the words into the music surrounding it. This creates such a smooth and soothing effect, something that makes this song such a good listen. It also gives the song that sensual sound. The vocals are also higher pitched, which goes really well with the fact that the instrumentals are deeper and a little darker.
There is also a lot of reliance on the bass. If you listen to this with headphones or speakers, you can hear and feel how deep that bass is. Normally we don't see that from songs that have this chilled out and indie pop kind of sound. But Always Never uses the bass so well that it doesn't detract from the song at all. The bass actually serves as this subtle foundation for the song, as well as a filler. We don't necessarily pay attention to it, but the minute the bass is taken away, we can hear and feel the emptiness. And that precision with the way the musical lines are created, well that gives nothing but praise to the production of the song. Always Never has a good selection of songs out, so give them a whirl! I promise it will be worth it.
Today's instrumental song is by Imagine Dragons. Lately they have put out music that kind of follows this mellowed out version of music. Now this song is more on the happier and brighter side, but it is still such a beautiful song. I like the evolution I have seen from Imagine Dragons, and this song is no different. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
