070 Shake and Flume

Today I have some music for you by an artist that I've spent some time listening to in the past, but recently go back into. It isn't often that we get female rappers on the scene, and it's equally as rare to see female artists who perform like today's artist does. 070 Shake is one of the most unique artists out there. Now to be completely honest, I was a bit confused about the name of the group, thinking the lead rapper's name is 070 Shake. Just to clear things up, the female rapper is known as Shake and the rest of this contemporary rap group is 070. Hence the project's name.

But this has to be one of the most interesting groups to listen to because of how different they sound. The group is led by female rapper Shake, who has a voice that is incredibly recognizable and almost trademark. Her lower register, baritone vocals spit out some of the grittiest and grimiest realities of life. And it is cool to be able to hear how vocals like that can give such an emotional performance. Because to be quite honest, this is a track that is full of some powerful and emotional performances. All of the rappers passionately deliver cleverly written rhymes without really holding back. I appreciate that sentiment of purging everything into the song. It adds a realness to the track in a way that many others may not be able to capture.

The production of this song is pretty spectacular. The collaborating producer goes by the name Kompetition, and he has done some pretty incredible work in the past. This track is no different, as we get a very fresh sound. Not only that, but we get a track that is very contagious. Kompetition introduces us to an upbeat vibe despite the heavier subject matter of the song and turns it into a strangely addictive dance track. It isn't just the chorus though. Yes, I will admit the chorus is ridiculously catchy and has a solid hook. But the overall production is a combination of infectious melodies, sick synths, and hazy snares. Top that off with peculiarly intriguing vocals and we get a song that gets us all deliciously interested.

This song and all of Shake's work as a whole is just really smooth. It is so cool to listen to an artist who stands out so much from the rest of the rap world. Shake's sound is unlike any other rapper I've heard, and I like that she doesn't stick to one style of rap throughout. This song is a bit more pumped up and energized, but other tracks have a more laid back and even trap style going on. 070 Shake is a music project I highly encourage everyone to check out. The music is incredibly fresh and honest, a good combination.

Today's instrumental is by another unique artist who has made his way onto the charts. Flume is a DJ that a lot of people would recognize, but may not really know. His music is featured in many places and has become incredibly popular, but for some reason, the name "Flume" is one we don't hear often. But Flume's music is some of the coolest and intriguing pieces of work I have ever heard. For starters, no song sounds alike. Each song has their own story and personality, something which Flume weaves with strange sounds and jolting melodies. The things are though, is that Flume makes it work. Sounds we wouldn't normally associate and use come to life in his music and the man is able to create some of the most riveting compositions. I have to say, Flume is not just an artists, but a composer. I hope you enjoy the music and please feel free to comment!
